In her first year in Juilliard Nadja had technical problem with her teacher Miss DeLay (her violin teacher). Then Nadja started to thing if she was good enough to make a living as a violinist. Nadja got accepted to Juilliard. Halfway through of being nineteen Nadja couldn't play the G-major scale. She got to the point where she wanted to stop playing because she sounded bad with tortured her. So she stopped playing the violin for 7 months and it was the worst period of life for her. She felt like a bum. Nadja started to show up for her lessons without her fiddle. Miss DeLay understood and they spent the whole lesson time talking about music, life, and her problems. Then later Miss DeLay told her that she's going to throw Nadja out of her class if Nadja doesn't bring her violin next week. Nadja didn't touch her violin for more than half a year. The 1981 Walter W. Naumburg International Violin Competition was coming up in two months. So she signed up for the competition. She made a decision to start playing the violin again so she can save her life. She had AMBITION because she immersed herself in practicing. Another reason why she has AMBITION is because she spent an enormous amount of time practicing. Then a fire occurred which destroyed her whole apartment. It happened when she was auditioning for the competition. She got into the competition. She said that she would play Prokofiev. Her good friend Sandra Rivers (a pianist) had been chosen as accompanist for the competition. The first eight measures of Prokofiev don't have accompaniment. Nadja started playing and got through the first movement. Later Sandra said Nadja's face was white as snow and said that Nadja was so tense, that she was beyond shaking and that Nadja is just solid brick. She was basically telling Nadja that she's IDLE. Nadja performed well and made it into the finals. Sandra Rivers told Nadja that when she plays Beethoven in Germany that they're going to hate you. Nadja performed well in Germany.
