What's Happening in the Library?
Current Inquiries at the Braeside Library - January
5th Grade - Poetry & African American History Month
We will start this unit by looking at picture books describing important people and events from African American history. From the survey of books, students will look for words and phrases that best describe this part of history, keeping note of these words and phrases, to be used for a Wordle Poetry project.
4th Grade - Digital Citizenship
Some of the questions we will be exploring: As digital citizens, do we know how to use Internet resources ethically? What is plagiarism, and how can we avoid it? How do we stay safe while using the Internet? How do we make sure our sources are reliable? Why is this important?
3rd Grade - The Solar System
Get ready to take a journey into space! We will be researching different celestial objects, and comparing those objects to each other. What patterns will we find in the solar system? What makes the Solar System a "system," anyway?
2nd Grade - Coyote the Trickster
Coyote is a trickster figure found in many Native American stories. We're reading different stories about Coyote and learning about him as a character. This exploration is also helping us understand the role of "Trickster," which we will later be comparing to other Trickster figures in folklore (Anansi and Brer Rabbit.)
1st - Famous Americans
As students visit the library every week, we will be introduced to a different "famous American" by reading a biography about that person and thinking about their contributions and accomplishments. The stories we read are sure to be very inspiring!
Kindergarten - Polar Bears & The Arctic Habitat
Beginning with Polar Bears, we will be looking at nonfiction resources to learn about the Arctic habitat and the animals who live there. How do they survive? What do they eat? Where do they live? So many new things to learn!
