News from the Principal's Office
A&M Consolidated High School
News from Elder's Desk
This past week, Tiger admin developed an intervention plan to support our ninth grade students who failed at least 2 classes (but no more than 4) during the fall semester. Administrators and counselors have been charged with meeting weekly with these students, requiring mandatory tutorials, and devising a plan to help improve their academic performance. Our data shows that students who do not earn at least 5.5 credits during their freshman year are less likely to graduate with their cohort. More importantly, the National High School Center states that “more students fail ninth grade than any other grade in high school and a disproportionate number of students who are held back in ninth grade subsequently drop out.” During our meetings, I learned that these students want to excel, but do not know how to persevere when faced with challenges. Nevertheless, we are determined to model, inspire, and empower these students to succeed and will not ever take what we do for granted.
