For Heaven's Sake
Our Lady Queen of Heaven School - October 2017
From the Principal's Desk
The Lord blessed us on Sunday with such beautiful weather! The Carnival provided the OLQH Community with a wonderful opportunity to share a magnificent day. There was such fun and delight in all the activities and events. Parents, students, and community members were able to share in the Joy In Christ. What an astonishing way to share our joy.
God’s continued blessings as we journey together through this school year.

Music Appreciation
The fifth grade music appreciation enrichment explored the Baroque, Classical, Country and Pop genres of music. Students did research, listened to many artists of each genre, watched documentaries and and concluded the nine weeks by creating their own personal music videos. Each student was very open to learning about and experiencing music that they were not familiar with. I think everyone walked away with a greater appreciation of how deeply music enriches our lives.
3rd grade!
Third grade classes have been busy starting multiplication and learning about the different parts of the mass. They also have been enjoying their "mystery readers"!

5th Grade Reading Buddies
The month of October was the first time for our 5th graders to read to PreK! Students selected books and practiced reading them aloud with expression. We then paired up with the PreK classes and spent the day reading to them! The 5th graders learned a lot from their new little friends and we hope the little ones enjoyed the stories! This will be a monthly occurrence and we are excited to read to them again!
There are many students in 5th grade that did an amazing job with AR during the first nine weeks of school! These students earned ten (or more!) points in AR and will be recognized with a Pizza Party at lunch with Mrs. Bushnell soon. The students are: Ella Aguillard, Olivia Armentor, Camille Cunningham, Jack Ortego, Edie Stickell, Lily Buckles, Finn Gage, Kyndal Goodwin, Mary-Elise Milligan, Natalia Reyes, Jackson Truax, Carter Weeks, Gray Allen, Thomas Bebee, Madeline Green, Grace Jester, Maggie Nickels, Jamilyn Oro, London Owens, and Charlie Trappey.
5th Grade Monster
The last two weeks have been busy for 5th graders as they designed and created our Halloween monster. Partners brainstormed, planned, and designed 50 different body parts for the monster ranging from the tongue, earrings, an X-box and even a toothbrush by following the guidelines and directions of other participating schools around the world. In addition, 5th graders decorated pumpkins on Halloween day!
8th Grade Shark Tank!
As a part of our Economics unit, the 8th graders completed a project in which they had to work cooperatively in groups and come up with a business idea to sell a product or service. The business had to relate to Louisiana in some way and the groups had to determine whether what they were selling was a want or a need. They also had to explain what costs they would have to make their products and what price they would have to sell the product for in order to make a profit.
We had everything from a Breezy Tech hat, which had a built-in fan to keep you cool at outdoor events to a tracking device built in to Mardi Gras beads (so you can locate your child at Mardi Gras festivities) to lotion that would protect your hands when you're trying to peel crawfish! Everyone did a great job and we had some wonderful presentations.

asbestos statement
Each year parents must be informed that the school has complied with all national standards regarding asbestos on campus. Certain vinyl floors and the panels that are below the quad windows will have to be handled appropriately if ever replaced. Our report indicates that existing asbestos is in good condition and we have the highest rating given. You are welcome to examine the asbestos file in the office if desired.
