Boggess Elementary

From the Desk of Shurandia Holden
Hello Boggess Bengals,
We had a terrific week filled with learning and fun at Boggess!
We had several 5th grade students perform at the Texas Legends Basketball game last weekend. They sang the Star Spangled Banner beautifully and had an awesome time. Thank you students and Mrs. Hans for representing Boggess! Scroll below for photos.
Glen Hummel from the Plano Symphony Orchestra visited our 4th graders on Wednesday. He demonstrated a variety songs and sounds on the trumpet. He discussed the evolution of the trumpet by sharing a conch shell and a variety of instruments. This visit was to prepare student for their April field trip. See photo below.
PEEPs provided a wonderful parent program, Social Media Wellness for Tweens and Teens, last night at the PTA meeting. Yanil Perez - Mitchell shared some practical strategies to help students dealing with unhealthy social media situations. Parents engaged in discussions oh how to help their child safely thrive in an every changing world of social media and technology.
In compliance with Senate Bill 9 and House Bill 1525, all school districts in Texas are required to provide parents an “opt in” consent for their child to receive instruction in the required Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) for the following topics, rather than the previous “opt out” process:
- anti-victimization education (child abuse and human trafficking prevention);
- violence prevention (family violence prevention and healthy relationships); and
- reproductive health (grades 4, 5, 7 and health and biology classes for older students)
We will be sending a letter with specific elementary selections next week.
Thank you for making sure your child gets to school on time. It is important that students are in class ready to learn by 7:40 AM.
Students should be in classrooms ready to learn by 7:40 am. Our gym doors open at 7:00 am and our front doors open at 7:15 am. Children wait in the gym until being dismissed at 7:25 to classrooms. We encourage parents to get children to school by 7:25 to allow 10 – 15 minutes for children to walk to lockers, put items away and get organized for the day. Morning work is planned for students at 7:30, and announcements start promptly at 7:40 a.m. Children arriving to school after 7:40 a.m. must come to the office to get a tardy slip.
Do not drop your children off in the parking lot. If you are not coming through the carpool lane, you should park and walk your children across the crosswalk to school.
If you are using the bus lane on the west side of Boggess for AM drop off, we thank you for your patience. For the safety of our students, please do not pass the busses as our students unload. I know this may slow down traffic but the safety of our students is our top priority.
