Last newsletter of the term! But still a week to go. A shortened week though. On Monday we have a day off as a Public Holiday in recognition of the life of Queen Elizabeth who reigned for 70 years, the longest of any British Monarch.
Teachers have been busy planning events for Term 4 and it is looking to be a full calendar already. We are planning events that we will be able to share with you and are looking forward to having you back on site. Check out the Events list and mark these on your calendars.
I have been delighted with the energy and excitement of the science learning that has been going on in classes and around the school and the curiousness of students during this unit of work. Please continue to check in on Seesaw to keep updated as to what your children have been up to.
Next week we look forward to welcoming Mark Gregory from the Catholic Education Office into our school for 2 days to look at and review what we are doing in terms of Special Catholic Character across the school and in our community.
Have a fantastic long weekend.
Sport
Congratulations to our two basketball teams who will be finishing their seasons this week. Both teams have played well and shown a great team spirit. A huge thank you goes to Mr McManus and Miss Journee for supporting the teams each week. Also a big thank you to all the parents who have supported these teams each week. Thank you to Mrs Williams who makes this all happen every week, organising teams, coaching at lunchtimes, ferrying children to games and making sure they all get picked up afterwards. A huge job.
A reminder: It is really important for all students in year 4-8 to have a change of clothes, (top and shorts) and sports shoes for sport every Thursday.
Our School Athletics Day will be held on Wednesday 26th October (week 2). If you would like to volunteer your help for the day or part of the day, please let me know as soon as possible via seesaw, email or at the gate after school one day.
Focus on Bishop Michael Gielen:

Did you know?
Bishop Michael Gielen’s father, Henk Gielen is a Deacon and works in the All Saints by the Sea Parish including Mt Maunganui, Te Puke and Maketu.
Liturgical Year
Why do priests wear red vestments? Well, when we celebrate a particular feast day within Ordinary Time the priest wears the colours of that feast. Red is used on Palm Sunday, on Good Friday, on Pentecost Sunday, on celebrations of the Lord’s Passion and on the feast days of the Apostles and Evangelists and martyr Saints.
Wednesday 21 September is the Feast Day of St Matthew, the apostle and evangelist so look out for red when you are at Mass!
Roading Disruption
Lincoln Road / Whiteleigh Avenue / Barrington Street intersection closure.
There will be a full intersection closure of the intersection from 6pm Friday 30 September and it will reopen at 6am Monday 3 October 2022. Work will be 24 hours a day until completed. In case of bad weather, work will be postponed until 6pm Friday 7 October until 6am Monday 10 October.

Internet Safety
We sometimes hear from parents that they don’t understand what children are doing on the internet. Here is a link for you to keep informed around the use of social media. The Netsafe site is always a good site for information around any internet topic.
Social media can be a great way to stay connected to friends and family, however, there can be some risks. Netsafe has some advice to help you keep your children safe while using social media.

2023 Dates
Hats are compulsory outdoors in Term 4.
From the start of Term 4 our policy is ‘No hat, No play’. We are fortunate to have enough shelter from the sun but children will need to be wearing a sunhat when playing outside. These need to be wide brimmed hats and are available from the office for $5
You are also encouraged to apply sunscreen to your children prior to them coming to school. We will have supplies of sunscreen for children to reapply at school.
Road Safety
Please do not park on the yellow lines outside of school when dropping off and picking up children, it restricts the view of children on road patrol. Avoid parking on the bus stop and in the school grounds. Please remember to keep children safe in vehicles by following New Zealand law. All children must be restrained when travelling in a motor vehicle. If you are unsure of the requirements please check the website below.
