A&M Consolidated High School
Reflections from Elder's Desk
Last week, preparing for the National School Walkout and finalizing the new high school boundaries were the two biggest issues that were front in center at AMCHS, and thankfully, they are behind us. In reference to the walkout, our students chose to hold a memorial period vs. walking out to honor the victims who lives were lost due to the school shootings in Columbine High School, Sandy Hook Elementary, and Parkland High School. I saw students crying and comforting each other, and I also overheard students comment on how appreciative they were to pay tribute to these victims. Clearly, the memorial was meaningful and hopefully will continue to make a positive difference in our school community.
Rezoning has never been an easy feat but effective for 2019-2020, new high school attendance boundaries will go into effect. However, students can opt to start at their new school in the fall of 2018. After readying several posts, I am perplexed as to why these parents or students do not want to be rezoned to Consol. Instead of channeling my energy in figuring out why they do not want to attend our school, I have decided to rise above the negativity and funnel all that destructive energy in a positive manner, and I need your help! Whether you are at the grocery store, at church, or in the community, it is imperative they know that the hearts and minds of the educators inside this building are second to none, our students are stellar, and that we take care of students as if they are our very own. Every time I have an opportunity to visit with new enrolls and families, I ask them, “Why Consol?” Oftentimes, they respond because it feels like home, the people are friendly, or the academic reputation is top-quality.
Though change is inevitable, we become what we talk about. So let’s model how Consol Strong we are and rise above the negativity through our positive actions and our commitment in providing a quality education that is unbeatable!
