GHS Update

March 23, 2020

Moving forward...

First, thank you for your patience and flexibilty during this situation. There are still many unknowns and we will continue to do our best to keep you current when changes occur. The first part of this update needs to be informational but I would like to pass along that every teacher I've talked to truly misses our students and hope for a quick end so we can work with them again. Whether it's OAP or our powerlifters preparing for a state run, seniors finishing up a great four years or just seeing friends everyday, we're all missing something special.

Safety and continued instruction are our goals as we continue to serve our community. With that in mind, GISD will use Google Classroom as the platform to deliver instruction. For those without WiFi or computer access, the same assignments will be available for pick up at the front of the school. Teachers will be on campus, in their classrooms and far from each other, working on setting up their individual lessons. If there are questions, please call (940) 665-5528.

Google Classroom

Many of our students and teachers already utilize Google Classroom so it will be an easy transition. Assignments will be ready by Wednesday as teachers come in on Monday to prepare. Our experts on campus agreed with the following steps for access:

  1. Go to Please keep in mind that some teachers will still be setting up their accounts.
  2. Access using your school email account. “What’s my school email” is ALWAYS a question. First initial last name . Grad year example: Password is either Gisd _ _ _ _ or GoRed _ _ _ _ based on the grade. (_ _ _ _ is last 4 of student ID)
  3. Click the plus "+" sign in the top right hand corner
  4. Add the codes of your teachers.

Parents who would like may be added to the classroom via an email address. They can send the teachers their address and, then, the teachers will send an invite. They can monitor everything at that point. We will have our experts here on campus Monday and, at times, throughout the week to answer questions (940) 665-5528.

Big Thanks to our Leopard Google Team:

CTE: Ms. Broom and Ms. Osterman

Science: Ms. Wells

Math: Coach Roberson

Our graduation date (May 27) and new prom date (May 23) are secured, at this time, but tentative, to say the least. We asked for your patience as all end of the year events- Baccalaurette, Class Night, Shining Stars Gala, Banquets, etc.- are big unkown, right now. Your Senior Class sponsor, Ms. Osterman, and your counselors are doing a great job staying current with all new information as it comes in.

Students who are completing an IGC for graduation will complete it on line with the guidance of Ms. Saikin. She will be contacting you soon.

NCTC Dual Credit

NCTC is going on line next week, March 30. Your counselors will contact all students enrolled in dual credit courses this week regarding the steps you will take moving forward.

Parent Surveys...

Over the break, please take the time to fill out our parent survey. Your feedback is extremely important and guides the path GHS takes.

FOOD Deliveries

Students may have food brought to them from parents, guardians and family members. They may NOT order it and have it delivered.

Cell Phones

We appreciate your support as students get accustomed to the new cell phone policy. It takes an adjustment period but we will continue to keep the instructional focus in our classrooms and hallways.

Just as a reminder:

Cell phone use is prohibited in classrooms, hallways and restrooms. They must be stored or put away during the instructional day.

Cell phones are allowed to be used before 8:15 in the cafeteria AND during a student's assigned lunch period in the cafeteria.

● On the first offense and second offense, the telecommunications device shall be confiscated and then returned to the parent with a warning for the student/parent. The parent and student will sign the written warning.

● On the third offense (and incremental offenses thereafter), a $15 fine shall be required before the telecommunications device is returned. ○ A parent may elect to forgo the fine in place of an alternative deterrent.

■ If the fine is not paid, the student will be required to report to the front office to turn in their electronic device(s) each day for a period of five consecutive school days. The device(s) will be available for student retrieval at the conclusion of each school day for this situation only. All other confiscations must be retrieved by a parent and/or guardian.
