Mark's Monday Morning Memo

Saluting Our 6th Graders
On Thursday, June 1st, we will be celebrating our 6th graders as they leave elementary school headed to junior high. We'll be lining up around the school to "high five" the 6th graders near the end of the day. We're planning this at 3:15 that afternoon and you will get a school map and recommended place for you and your students to line up.
August Professional Development
I will be hosting a professional development day for ALL Gatewood staff members on Monday, August 28, 2017. This will be an opportunity for all of us (classroom teachers, licensed support staff, paraprofessionals, food service, custodial, clerical, and Kids & Company) to come together, collaborate, and set our course for the year. Staff members not scheduled to work that day will be compensated. Whatever you can do to organize your calendar to be part of that day is appreciated. Thank you.
Environmental Education Passion Grant
Thanks to the impetus and interest of our colleagues, I applied for and received a Passion Grant from our district. I've titled this grant, "Gatewood Embraces Environmental Education" and will dedicate the funds to our professional development and learning on how to promote our school as an environmental education focused school. I'll seek your input about opportunities and provide more details as we move forward.
Apex Fun Run
Thank you to everyone for your support, promotion, and participation with the Apex Fun Run. Preliminary results indicate that we finished on a strong note almost meeting the PTO's goal. This fun run supports our PTO in making sure teachers and students have wonderful experiences here at Gatewood.
Let's Finish Strong!
I know at this time of the year I like structure, routines, predictability, and fun. Our students are the same way. Let's make sure we are providing structure, routines, and activities and communicating our expectations all the way through the end of the day on June 1st.
