A Message from Ms. Lilly
RNE Newsletter February 23, 2017
The Principal's Office
Dear RNE Family,
What a terrific week at RNE! Our literacy consultant, Jen Jones, was with us for two days. Teachers spent Wednesday working on guided reading strategies for effective lessons. As I visited classrooms today, it was exciting to see teachers trying out their new learning. We are fortunate to have the award of our seed fund last year to support this important curriculum work. We are truly growing readers, writers, mathematicians, and thinkers at RNE!
Progress Skills Checklists and STAR Reading/Math winter progress information will be in Friday folders this week. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
I hope many of you will join us tomorrow evening for our International Night. I promise it is a night you don't want to miss.
Best,
Maureen
Be the voice
The Interact Club kicked off the Be the Voice campaign this week! Our members were excited to see the enthusiasm and support from students and teachers for this community project. Be the Voice (BTV) is a program that encourages students to stand up against bullying. This program has been extremely beneficial to Roswell High School and has decreased bullying by 50%. BTV is a unique program that empowers bystanders to speak up and encourages a positive peer pressure environment. The Roswell Rotary Club was involved in helping our Interact members kick off this wonderful campaign.
The Interact Club is proud to bring this program to RNE, and we look forward to its positive effects.
For more information about Be the Voice, check out their website.

Dear RNE Families -
Don't forget that the 5th Annual RNE International Night is happening this Friday, February 24th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the cafeteria! International night is a chance to celebrate the amazing cultural diversity represented at our school with tables hosted by RNE families from 25 different countries. This fun, family event is a great opportunity to learn about foreign lands, taste new foods, and experience the arts.
Please Note:
- The event kicks-off with the Parade of Nations and a welcome from Principal Lilly and our Fulton County School Board Representative, Katha Stuart, shortly after 7:00. The evening's entertainment will also include dance performances from Ireland and Spain.
- Many countries will have food to sample and you might be thirsty! The PTA will be selling water for $1 a bottle.
- Don't forget to stop by the "Immigration Table" in the front hall on your way in to pick up passports. Answer the passport trivia questions and collect stamps from each country's table to win a prize!
We look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
