Week of November 21st #ReImagine #WholeChild
A Thankful Word from Dr. P.
Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect on those things that are most important to us: our family, our friends, our faith, and the many blessings that surround each and every one of us. I am particularly thankful for our Sterling School community. Whether you volunteer your time, provide tangible items and supplies, or reinforce at home what is taught at school, on behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration at Sterling School, we thank you! Our families are not taken for granted. Each day, we are blessed through simple interactions in the car line, encouraging notes and emails, and your strong presence at school events. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and your family. I pray that every Sterling School family has an enjoyable and memorable Thanksgiving. #ReImagine #WholeChild

November Faculty/Staff of the Month
Congratulations to Mrs. Katelyn Barnett (Faculty) and Miss B (Staff) for their recent selection as our school's Faculty/Staff Member of the Month!
Mrs. Barnett currently teaches 3rd grade and is in her first year at Sterling School. Here are a few thing our faculty/staff had to say about Mrs. Barnett: "Mrs. Barnett works tirelessly to provide an amazing nurturing classroom environment. She is so flexible and willing to meet students where they are and grow them forward. She never complains and is always positive. Mrs. Barnett provides the best instruction, makes authentic connections with families, and has an obvious passion for her students."
Miss B is a member of our school's custodial team. This is what some of our faculty/staff had to say about Miss B: "Miss B always has a smile on her face. She is such a ray of sunshine, works hard, and looks out for anything she can do to help. Her kindness is unmatched. Miss B goes above and beyond in her work every day. She really cares about the students."
These individuals provide our school with great examples of #GriffinPRIDE who work hard to meet the needs of the #WholeChild. Join us in celebrating this well-earned recognition! #ReImagine
Fifth Grade: Internet Safety
Rick Floyd will be coming to Sterling School on Friday, December 3rd, to speak to our 5th graders about internet safety! Rick Floyd joined Greenville County Schools after serving in law enforcement for over 20 years. He and his colleagues present more than 250 Cyber Safe presentations annually in schools and the community. Students have attributed positive outcomes to his presentations, which focus on digital literacy and our technological world where danger can be present in the latest app or on a social media site.
Author Nick Bruel to Visit Sterling School
New York Times bestselling children’s author Nick Bruel will be doing a virtual visit with 2nd-5th grades at Sterling School on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, to discuss his Bad Kitty chapter book series, including the new book, Bad Kitty Gets a Phone.
If you would like to pre-order books (including a signed bookplate), please send in your payment with the form below (make checks payable to Sterling School) and return it to your child’s teacher by Wednesday, January 12th.

Choose Sterling School: GCS School Choice Lottery Window Now Open!
Did you know... Sterling School is GCS's only total choice school? This means every single family who attends Sterling School is here by choice. While students of our Charles Townes Center Program are here by invitation, many people do not realize that students of our Sterling Program are also here by choice. So, if you've enjoyed your experience at our school, share the good news (and this digital newsletter) and invite them to join our family!
...Not convinced? Check out the flyer below!

5K & 1st Grade Registration for 2022-23
If your child is starting kindergarten or first grade next year, we need your help! It’s extremely important that you enroll your child between December 6-10 to ensure we know how many teachers we’ll need on the first day of school. If you register on those days, you will be entered to win a pair of Ice on Main tickets!
There are two ways to enroll. Visit the Parent section of the GCS website and set up a Backpack account. Open your account, click “Enroll A Student,” and follow the instructions. Backpack is an essential tool for parents to check their child’s grades, lunch balance, attendance, and receive notifications from the school and district.
If you do not have internet access, the Student Enrollment Form and Home Language Survey form are available at each school. Be sure to bring the required documents with you to complete the registration process.

Supporting a DonorsChoose project is super easy...
1) Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
2) When a project is fully funded, DonorsChoose will purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
3) When funded, every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
Lost & Found Update
The first round of unclaimed items that were on the cart for over a month have been donated. Parents, please label your child’s jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, gym bags, etc…so they can be easily returned. It’s also important to have your child check Lost & Found in a timely manner before the next round is donated. Thank you!
