February Student of the Month - Alertness
Congratulation Ms. April - OUSD Employee of the Month!!
District Prize Patrol consists of Assistant Superintendent Mr. Gonzalez, Executive Director of HR Tracy Knibb, and HR Director Susana Solis.
Ms. April will be recognized by the Board of Education at the next board meeting on March 2nd!

Read Across America Week: February 27 - March 3
Roadrunners, Get ready for an exciting week to embrace Reading Across America!! Each day a different theme will be dedicated to reading!
MONDAY 2/27: "Dr. Seuss' Sleep Book" - Pajama Day
TUESDAY 2/28: "I Can Read with My Eyes Shut" - Wear a shirt you can read
WEDNESDAY 3/1: "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" - Wear a shirt from somewhere you've been or you'd like to go (college, travel, etc)
THURSDAY 3/2: "The Cat in the Hat" - Dress as your favorite book Character
FRIDAY 3/3: "Horton Hears a Who" - Bring a book and enjoy LUNCH WITH A LOVED ONE (NC spirit wear or uniform)

Principal for the Day - Thursday, March 2nd
Mr. Kisela currently is the City Manager for the City of Orange. Prior to this position, Mr. Kisela held the position of Chief of Police for the Orange Police Department. Tom Kisela is a graduate of Villa Park High School and still resides in Orange. Tom is also the Uncle to a Nohl Canyon Family!
Mr. Kisela will visit Nohl Canyon in the morning then followed with a visit to Villa Park High School to meet the other recipients from the Villa Park HS Feeder schools.
The purpose of having a “guest” principal is to enable an experience of a day in our school from the principal’s perspective. The recipient will be able to see our challenges and strengths. The Principal for the Day event is also a wonderful way to connect our community leaders to our school sites!

WEEK 4 UPDATE: Fundraiser ended on February 16th!
As of 2/26/23: NC raised $13,690.14 for AHA!! (2022 NC raised $14,389)
*all $ raised goes directly to AHA
44 - students completed Finn's Mission (students have earned Lunch with the Principal!)
259 - students registered
119 - challenge for being Kind
138 - challenge for moving more
76 - families learned Hands-Only CPR 💖💖
13 - students and families raised more than $200 each, earning "Frankie" keychain!
AND... 4 students have earned a "Golden Egg" from the mystery gift package!! This means the student and their class just got entered into a drawing where if they are chosen, they all will be invited to a virtual party with Finn and Kelly!
All additional after event prizes (t-shirts, jump ropes, balls...) will delivered as soon as the school receives them.
Lunch with the Principal will be planned for March - invitations will go out soon!

The "Running Club" training will begin on February 7th. Training will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 - 3:15. With many after school activities taking place, students are welcome to attend when they can.

CAASPP and Physical Fitness Testing coming soon!
- The state mandated Physical Fitness Testing for 5th, 7th and 9th grade students will take place February 27 - March 24. The Physical Fitness test includes the following assessments: Push-ups, Sit-ups, Flexibility, trunk lift, mile run. Please speak with your 5th grade teacher for any questions.
CAASPP - The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career.
- CAASPP incorporates the Smarter Balanced Assessment Conscortium (SBAC), a standardized test consortium
- Students in 3rd - 8th grade, and 11th grade will take part in the SBAC.
- For Nohl Canyon, SBAC will take place May 8 - May 26
**** Please plan vacations and medical appointments around these dates (specifically 8-10 am each day)
- Students will be assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. 5th grade students will also take the California Science Test

The Special Education Department is excited to host monthly one hour parent workshops! These workshops are geared toward offering support and strategies regarding a variety of topics, including:

Cell Phone Use - "NO CELL, BELL to BELL"
1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.
2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.
3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:
1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack
2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office
