LME Families,

I apologize for this date change! The Sock Hop is historically held on a Friday night, and I inadvertently approved the date for a Saturday.

Students (and staff) may wear their favorite 50s attire to school on Friday, September 24 and then come back that night for a family fun event!

Student / Staff Shout Out

Cora, Lilly, and Jenna are on the same cheer team. Mrs. Reid and Ms. Daniell came to cheer them on at the football game last Saturday. We are family.

Staff Shout Out - Mrs. Kempf

Everyday my kids come home excited to tell me stories from Mrs. Kempf’s class.
Today the story was “Mrs. Kempf had us write something on our papers, she said
Oops, I made a mistake, everyone wad up your papers and have a snowball fight!” Ha!
How fun does that sound?! Thank you Mrs. Kempf for being awesome!

Staff Shout Out - Mrs. Smith

Mrs. Smith has been such a blessing! Her encouraging words on my son's daily assignments and happy go lucky attitude has made the transition from 2nd to 3rd so easy for him! - The Ramirez Family

Panorama Survey

Dear Midlothian ISD Families,

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. MISD values input from our community – and we need to hear from your child or children! Students are important partners as we work to improve our communication, academic program and overall experience for everyone.

In order to learn more about student experiences at school, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete.

We are asking that all of our students in grades 3-12 participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor, Panorama, to support us in administering these surveys.

The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on: growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-management, social awareness, grit, sense of belonging and teacher-student relationships.

Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the survey by filling out the form by Wednesday, September 15, 2021. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. If you have any questions about the survey administration, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 469-856-6500 or

COVID-19 Update (8/20/21)

MISD Family,

Starting today, MISD will notify you via email of any positive COVID cases in your child’s class. This notification does not mean your child was in close contact with the individual. Your child may have class, an extracurricular activity, an after-school activity, or lunch with the COVID-positive individual.

Our goal is to send this notification out near the end of the school day each day. If you do not receive notification on a particular day, the school did not have any new cases or your child was never in any shared spaces with the COVID positive individual(s). You may also receive more than one notification. In this case, your child had shared spaces with more than one COVID-positive case.

In addition, MISD updates the COVID-19 District COVID-19 Dashboard daily at 4 p.m. Please visit the dashboard to see daily active cases and recoveries.

MISD Proud,
MISD Communications

COVID-19 Protocols (8/9/21)

Dear MISD Families,

Midlothian ISD is excited to welcome your child back to school with in-person instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. Our priority is to keep all students, staff and visitors safe as we fully reopen our buildings. With the COVID-19 landscape constantly changing, MISD continues to collaborate with our local Ellis County Health Authority to monitor and address additional COVID mitigation efforts as necessary.

The following updates have been made for the 2021-2022 school year:

  • Face masks are highly encouraged for students, staff and visitors.

  • Plexiglass is available as needed. Please contact your child’s school Principal to request a plexiglass divider in the classroom and/or cafeteria.

  • Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout district buildings. Healthy hand hygiene will be encouraged.

  • Currently, contact tracing is no longer required and daily notification of positive cases will not be reported. This is subject to change.

  • The MISD COVID-19 Dashboard has been discontinued at this time. This is subject to change.

  • Touchless water fountains are available. Students are encouraged to bring an empty, refillable bottle to school for water.

  • Custodial and transportation teams will continue to keep MISD buildings and buses clean.

  • Parents are encouraged to self-monitor their child for symptoms of COVID-19 and seek medical attention when necessary.

  • Long-term virtual instruction will not be available for the 2021-2022 school year. Limited remote conferencing* will be available for up to 20 days when approved.

  • Parents may choose to keep their child at home due to known community exposure. They would only be eligible for remote conferencing only with a doctor’s note.

Per the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), “A school administrator shall exclude from attendance any child having or suspected of having COVID-19. Exclusion shall continue until the readmission criteria for conditions are met.” Students and staff who are positive for COVID-19 must meet the following readmission criteria before returning to school:

  1. COVID-19 Positive individuals must remain out for 10 days from symptom onset, be fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication, and other symptoms have improved.

  2. COVID-19 Positive individuals who are asymptomatic must remain out for 10 days from the test date.

For more information, visit the DSHS update and the MISD 2021-2022 COVID Protocols document.

Thank you,
Midlothian Independent School District

*Remote conferencing is a limited remote learning opportunity for students under certain medical circumstances. The TEA limits a student to a maximum of 20 days of remote conferencing in the 2021-2022 school year. Remote conferencing schedules are determined by individual campuses and it is conducted by a staff member that may not be the student’s teacher. The parent/guardian must provide required medical documentation and coordinate remote conferencing opportunities with the campus principal. Remote conferencing requires 4 hours of daily instruction with a district staff member at a designated time. This may take some time as a school system to coordinate and to implement.
