A Message of Thanksgiving
In this season of thanks, I'd like to share how thankful I am to be an Olson Otter and have the privilege of spending my days at Olson Elementary with the MOST incredible staff, students, and families! I hope you all have a joyful and restorative break, and we look forward to seeing our kiddos both on campus and online on November 30. Happy Thanksgiving, Otters!
Much love,
Mrs. Miller
Principal, Olson Elementary
SCHOOL START TIME IS 7:45
Please join Olson in participating in Toys for Tots, benefiting families in our community! We are partnering with all of Allen ISD and the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots organization in their commitment to collect toys and books for children in our community that would otherwise not receive items for the Holidays. We are collecting new unwrapped toys and books from November 9th – December 4th.
In Person Learners
There are big, labeled boxes set up by the stairs and across from the office that you can place your donated items in. We appreciate your support and generosity!
At Home Learners
Toys for Tots will have extra donation boxes at 2 locations: The Allen ISD Service Center, 1451 N. Watters Road, and the Allen ISD Administration building, 612 E. Bethany Drive to drop-off items.
ALL FAMILIES also have the option to drop their items at the Allen ISD dedicated spot that will be setup at the Allen Event Center for a drive-thru collection on Tuesday, December 8th from 5:00-10:00pm held by FOX 4 News and the Marine Corps League of Collin County for Toys for Tots.
CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH - EMPATHY
Empathy is defined as an action of understanding, being aware of, and being sensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another person. Empathy is about understanding what it is like to be in another person’s place or position.
In order to show others empathy, we need to understand what they are feeling and respond in kindness. We interact with people every day who have needs, need understanding, or need to be listened to. As we move through our day, we need to pay attention to what is being said and unsaid, as well as what is happening around us.
This time of year, we are finding people in need almost daily. By being empathetic, we take the time to let those around us know that we care about them. This month, show your children what it means and how it feels to do something to impact the lives of others by listening, doing something or “walking in someone else’s shoes.”
SCIENCE FAIR
Olson’s Virtual Science Fair will be held on Thursday, December 10. Look for information on how to participate from your students teacher. You may also email Citabra.profitt@allenisd.org if you have questions.

AT HOME LEARNERS
Please join us at Chick-fil-A on Stacy Road for Olson Spirit Day on Thursday, December 3rd. You can visit Chick-fil-A anytime between 6:00am-10:00pm to help support our school. Tell the cashier when you are ordering that you are an Olson Otter, so that we get credit for you attending. Thank you for supporting Olson through Chick-fil-A!
FROM THE NURSE: ATTN (KINDER, 1ST, 3RD, AND 5TH GRADE)
The State of Texas requires hearing and vision screenings to be completed on all Kinder, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students. With half of our student population learning virtually this year, students will need to be brought to the school, so that I can complete a quick hearing and vision screening. Please see the available days and times to sign up your student.
