Community Newsletter : November 2022 Update

October has come and gone, but what an amazing month it was for our school and community. Our days and nights were full of amazing activities that only continued to strengthen the bond between, students, staff, families, and our community at large. We are continuously amazed at just how much pride and support there is for any and all activities that we have going on at our school.

Much like October, November is sure to be packed with a variety of activities and events to keep the connection between school and community strong and active! We look forward to seeing all of our families on campus celebrating what is sure to be another amazing month!

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Regards,

Chris Lowe

Student Spotlight 🙌

Meet our School Photographers Kaitlyn and Ava

Have you seen any of the amazing photos on our social media sites? Or maybe you have witnessed several of our students on the sidelines of our athletic events or behind the scenes of many of our events. This month, I wanted to take a moment and highlight our two students who are typically behind the lens! We are fortunate to have these two amazing students who have embraced the role of school photographer(s) for our building

Here is a bit of information to help you get to know Kaitlyn and Ava better! Make sure to say hello if you see them at an upcoming event.

Kaitlyn Garden, Class of 2023 --

Kaitlyn is a senior here at Millbury this year! She has been leading photography at the school for 2 years and couldn’t be happier that she was given this opportunity. She is so thankful for the response from the community regarding her photos from sports games, band events and more. On top of this, she is the student council vice president and a member of numerous clubs. She plans to attend college in the Fall of 2023 and hopes to major in Communications.

More of her work can be viewed on Instagram @kaitlyngardenphotos.

Ava Jendrysik, Class of 2025 —

Ava is a sophomore at Millbury this year. Accompanying roles as class president and president of Millbury UNICEF, Ava has joined in helping contribute and manage media for both photography and videography within school over the past year. She would like to express her gratitude for this opportunity and thank not only the school but all the involved community altogether for the opportunity, memories, and a kind response to her work.

Have you heard that we will be implementing two Innovative Pathways at Millbury Memorial Junior Senior High Schools during the 2023-2024 school year? We are in the application process with the State in order to bring a pathway in both Advanced Manufacturing and Information Systems (Computer Science) to our students next year.

We will be sharing more information with the community in the upcoming weeks and months to share what this will look like moving forward!

Please be on the lookout for more information. In the interim, you can read more about the Innovative Pathway Programs here.

Weight Room Renovations to begin December 12

I am happy to finally share that we are fortunate to be converting our weight room into an updated fitness center. We have been working with a variety of groups in order to make this a reality.

The current weight room will be receiving a makeover with updated equipment, flooring, a turf-inlay, updated audiovisual equipment, new windows, etc. The project went out to bid several weeks ago and we are happy to have a contract in place.

We are looking to have renovations begin around Christmas break.

A special thank you to everyone that is involved in the amazing opportunity for our school!!

Applying for FAFSA? Please read this most recent update from the State regarding their new MassAid program

Starting Monday, October 24, high school seniors and other prospective college students who file a Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA) for the first time will automatically receive a text message from the Office of Student Financial Assistance within 72 hours of their FAFSA submission. The message will invite them to create an account in the MASSAid system to learn more about their Massachusetts financial aid opportunities. Once logged in to MASSAid, these students will have the opportunity to:
  • View and compare the costs of attending any college and university in Massachusetts, beginning with the first four Massachusetts colleges that they listed in their FAFSA;
  • View their Expected Family Contribution – the amount the federal government expects students and families to pay towards the cost of college – as calculated by the FAFSA;
  • View their federal Pell Grant award amount;
  • View their potential eligibility for 11 different forms of state financial aid, based on the student’s FAFSA data and additional information that the student can provide through the tool; and
  • Access additional information regarding state financial aid programs and contact information for the financial aid offices of every Massachusetts college and university.
