Governance Council Meeting this week

Our first Governance meeting of the 2021-22 school year is this Wednesday, October 13th, via zoom. Please come and say hello! This is a great opportunity to hear what is currently happening, share your thoughts and learn about a few new ideas for the future. We have lots of new committee members this year who are excited to meet other Sycamore families.

During this month's meeting, we'll review a draft of our school's goals and actions, and I'll share a summary of our plans for school safety. We'll hear committee reports and have a report from our treasurer. Sarah Rockne, our Governance Facilitator will provide an update on our BE-LEAF activity, orders of Sycamore gear, and the upcoming Sycamore Celebrates. Sarah will also lead a conversation on extending support to our families and teachers. Take a look at the full agenda and notes from our last meeting. Hope to see you there!

Big picture

National Walk or Bike to School Day

Thank you to everyone who participated in Walk or Bike to School Day. Students were beaming with pride as they made their way to campus. For many, the day was a bonding experience between families and neighbors. We had 179 students and staff who traveled a combined 117 miles on foot, bike, scooter, or skateboard! Classes with the most participants were Rm 4 – 25 students, Rm 3 – 22 students, and Rm 2 – 17 students. Thank you also to the volunteers who helped make the morning a success. We hope you will continue to make walking and biking to school a healthy and fun part of your weekly routine!

Community Building

Our BE-LEAF in Sycamore activity is winding down and will come to a close on Sunday evening. If you still wish to make a BE-LEAF donation, please do so this weekend.

Thank you to every volunteer who brought smiles to kids faces, flew all over town, and darted through bushes. Your efforts, love and support for Sycamore are what makes a school a home. We hope this adventure created a lasting happy memory for you too.

Thank you to all who donated and sent us on our adventures. Many of you simply said - Please BE-LEAF any family who hasn't been LEAFED, a teacher, or any community member. With these requests we were able to reach out to new families, many of whom are just starting to feel at home at Sycamore. We welcome more of these requests this weekend.

If you have not had a BE-LEAF fairy visit your home yet, please let us know. Email with your address and we will make sure we add your family to our "flight" plan. Every single family at Sycamore is "BE-LEAFED" in!

Most importantly, reading your comments and seeing your photos warmed all our hearts. Community is crucial to the success of our students. We hope this activity helped us all rebuild a little part of what was lost over the past few years. We truly have had so much fun and can't wait to do this activity again. We think it's a keeper!
