HSD News Round-up

Keeping the Hockinson community in the loop!

HMS extended passing periods promote student health

While HMS teachers disinfect student desks during the day's 10-minute passing periods, many students take the opportunity to get outside and walk the track. This stretch break allows students to get active and clear their minds, and when they return to their next class, they sit at a freshly cleaned and sanitized desk.

Evan Heder and Jaden Archuleta, both in Grade 8, agreed that they enjoy getting outside to take a break from the classroom...unless it's too it's hot or windy, of course!

When asked "Do you like getting outside in between classes?" Temperance Stewart (Grade 6) responded with an enthusiastic "Yes!" It was a little more relative to Emma Miller (Grade 6) who replied, "It's better than standing on dots inside."

18-21 transition program highlight

These students' job- and community-learning experiences have been limited due to the pandemic. This spring they stepped forward to water and tend to the flowers planted by volunteers as part of the Earth Day Clean Up. They also participated in the first Hockinson Saturday Market by selling hanging flower baskets, which gave them the opportunity to build social and math skills.
