Chester Elementary School

May 10, 2019

Greetings Parents,

We greatly appreciate those of you who were able to drop off a thank you note and/or express your gratitude for any of the CES staff members this week. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding group of educators who care about all the students and want to help them. They have big hearts and are committed to serving our students, and a thank you from students and parents is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Our 3rd-5th graders have finished a week of testing in math. Next week they will start the reading tests. (5th graders will also take a science test). Please help us by making sure your child gets a good night's sleep, and either eats breakfast at home or school. Additionally, please encourage your child to do his/her best on these tests. We don't like to over-emphasize our required testing, but we do want our students to be proud of their results. (6th graders will be testing May 21-30).

All of our 6th graders returned safely to CES on Friday afternoon. As you see from the many pictures shared in this newsletter (and Facebook), they had a memorable, educational and enjoyable trip. I am so impressed with the many opportunities provided to students to learn outside of the classroom, and I'm extremely thankful for our staff and parents to help make these opportunities available for our students. A big thanks to Ms. Klimek and Ms. Camille McNeil for sacrificing time away from their own families to provide this opportunity to our 6th graders.

A big thanks to our CES PTA and all of our students who were able to participate in the read-a-thon. All proceeds support the many activities our PTA puts on for our students.

Fishing Opportunity June 1! Please see the attached flyer. June 1 from 8:00-12:00 at Canyon Dam students can enjoy a morning of fishing with several supporting agencies. Please consider attending. We hope to see this event continue in the upcoming years. (They will probably catch more fish than I ever catch!)

We need help! We are in desperate need of part time workers at CES to help out with our lunch duty (11-1) and substitute teacher aides. If you have some time during the day, enjoy being around young people and would like to make a little cash, then please let us know. Thanks for considering!
