God Wants My Family to Put Others First
This Sunday preschoolers are learning "I Can Help My Family" and elementary kids are learning "God Wants My Family to Put Others First" as they both learn about the story of Ruth.
Most of us probably know the story of Ruth. Here's a quick recap: Ruth was a widow who decided to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi, when her husband and sons passed away. Ruth bound herself to Naomi and followed her to her hometown of Bethlehem where Ruth also decided to follow the God of Israel.
As we're thinking about how God wants us to help and put others first, this verse from Ruth 4:14 stood out to me: The women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you without a family redeemer today. May his name become well known in Israel."
The story of Ruth and Naomi may seem messy to us. It involves a lot of pain and waiting. BUT THE LORD! He sent Ruth to Noami. He brought Boaz to Ruth. He was weaving all of these things together to tell of his story of love for them. What looks messy and meaningless to us, is often God's intentional way He is working to establish His kingdom.
I have 2 challenges for us this week:
- Let's be a group of people that are sensitive & obedient to when the Holy Spirit is asking us to help or put others first. Even if it seems weird. Even if it seems insignificant. Even if it seems meaningless. The Lord may be prompting you to do something that's going to show His goodness in ways you can't even see!
- Let's ask the Lord to give us His perspective and increase our faith. If you're in the middle of a circumstance that just feels messy and difficult, ask the Lord to increase your faith to believe that He's weaving things together for you that you can't see right now.
