Full Day Pre-K Update-Please Share!!
Through discussions with Pittsford, Chittenden and Mendon families regarding Pre-K, we identified a need for a full day model for working families. District administration generated a survey for families regarding their preschool needs and explored other possible models such as a wraparound child care model. After reviewing the results of the initial survey, the RNESU South End Preschool Committee sent a follow up email to those who participated to more fully explore their family needs. We have since held a meeting, inviting all known child care providers within 10 miles of Pittsford, Mendon, and Chittenden to see if any might be interested in partnering with RNESU to provide child care that wraps around our preschool program.
The survey results clearly indicated that families overall desire full day or full week childcare wrapped around our existing preschool model, while a few families prefer only our existing model. At this time, we offer the following update.
We are beginning a search for a potential child care providers who would be interested in partnering with Lothrop to offer full day, full week child care for preschool students ages 3-5.
If we find a child care partner, we can offer two programs: a program at Caverly and a program at the Lothrop Main Building. Families would have the option to choose a 10 hour a week preschool only program or a full day, wrap around child care/preschool program. The Lothrop preschool program would serve 3 & 4 year old students Monday, Wednesday, and Friday approximately 7:50-11:10 with child care beginning at 11:10-5:00 or 5:30 pm and child care available 7:50-5:00 or 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Caverly program would serve 3 & 4 yr old students for 10 hours of preschool only and the approximate schedule would be 11:30 am- 2:45 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday
The full day option is contingent on Lothrop finding the right partner with appropriate child care licensing. Anyone who might be interested in such a partnership should contact Debbie Alexander at dalexander@rnesu.org or the RNESU Business Manager, Brenda Fleming at bfleming@rnesu.org or use the Let’s Talk Application on our website for more information, on or before Wednesday, May 1, 2019. We anticipate interviewing partners the week of May 6th with an announcement to families by May 23rd.
If we are unsuccessful finding a partner to provide wraparound services for a full day/full week wraparound program, we will continue to offer two preschool programs at the Caverly building, a morning half day program on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 3-year-olds and an afternoon half day program on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 4-year-olds.

Fifth and sixth graders are finishing up the district wide art happening “Human Connection” with a reception April 10th at 4:30-6:00. Lower Lot
Please remember to use the drop off and pick-up line in the lower lot. We are noticing an increase of families parking on Pleasent Street or in the parking lot in order to avoid the pick-up line. This causes confusion and a safety hazard for drivers and students who are navigating the system.
