Cooks Corners Ribbon Cutting ~ February 22nd at 5pm!
Kids Chat Column
Hello Cooks Families! We are Emily Golding, Malia Howlett, and Emily Stoltzfus and we are in Mrs. Winters’s 4th grade class. We would like to tell you a little bit about some of the fun and exciting things happening at our school.
Our Math Bowl team has been working really hard to get ready for their competition. In Math Bowl, 20 students go to school in the morning a couple times a week to practice for the competition. This year’s competition will be on Thursday, February 22 at 6pm at Valparaiso High School.
Big congratulations to the Cooks Corners Science Bowl! Science Bowl had their competition on January 24th. They placed 2nd in the entire state! WOW! In Science Bowl, 4th and 5th graders spent their recess learning new vocabulary words and looking up the meanings. They also practiced mathematical facts that involved science.
Then, there is choir with the music teacher, Mr. Meyer! Choir had their first performance at Valparaiso High School in December for “This is Our Story”. Every Tuesday morning choir works on different songs for their next performance which will be in March.
Finally, there is Student Council where 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders go to school in the morning with their organizer, Mrs. Esola, to talk about fun activities like pajama day, stuffed animal day, etc. Student Council is a time for students to work with others students to come up with ideas for the school.
These are some of the fun and exciting things going on at our school. We hope you enjoyed reading this article.
Thank You!
Science Bowl takes 2nd in State
Congratulations to our Science Bowl! They placed second in the state of Indiana! It is worth mentioning that the Science Bowl team was only 1.5 points behind the team who earned 1st place! The team consisted of Amy Yu, Thomas Krueger, Caiden Reeder, Ingrid Danger, Clara Warren, Micah Snider, Lucy Terhorst, Maybelle Alburo, Antonio Caguia, Abbie Henson, and Lanae Hoyne.
This year's coaches were Annie Schoenfelt and Megan Warren. Students tried out to be a part of the team in early December. Students met for practices during recess several times per week. Students also had homework to complete at least once per week. All of the hard work paid off and we could not be more proud of their efforts!Cooks Hosts a Robotics Tournament

Nurse Notes
Vision screenings and referrals have been done and sent since the start of this school year. A note was sent home for those students having difficulty with the vision screening. If you received a referral letter, please let me know if your child was seen by the eye doctor and the results of the exam. Because vision can affect learning, it is important that students who need glasses wear them while in school. If you need assistance in finding an eye doctor or financial assistance for glasses please let me know.
