A Grateful Heart by Jasmine Mizola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
What an amazing turn out from the 70 or so who participated in the Parade of Champions! Thank you to all who came and cheered us on. After all, we are the longest continuously operating Catholic elementary school in the Bay Area. We are so proud of our heritage and extremely grateful that we have been able to serve thousands of families for 166 years. Photos are attached.
This week, we also celebrated milestones for our students and our community:
Ryan Bao, our parish youth minister and Mr. Goetz, their homeroom teacher, led a retreat for our eighth graders, to anchor their last year with us at Saint Clare School. Msgr. Fran took time out of his very busy schedule to visit with them and to celebrate Mass with them at Camp Saint Francis, overlooking La Selva Beach. We pray that their year is blessed with appreciation for one another, their teachers, their alma mater, and their parents and caregivers who have sacrificed much for them.
On Friday, the feast day of Saint Jerome, our fifth graders were each called by name to receive a bible. As Msgr. Fran noted, when we pray, we talk to God; when we read the bible, God talks to us. We pray that God’s word resonates in their hearts and grows, like the seed that fell on good soil.
Mr. Goetz and Ms. Hanson led the school synod consultation on Wednesday to hear about ways we can become more One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. These insights have been submitted and will be joined with the insights from the synod consultations held last Saturday with parishioners, along with the insights of other diocesan synod consultations.
CONFERENCE WEEK COMING UP! 12:30 dismissal ALL WEEK
You should all have your conference schedules on your calendars. Thank you for making it easier for our teachers by reading their posts and responding to their requests to communicate back. You are integral part in your student’s growth and development. Your child should have brought home a tip sheet from the Global Family Research Project from Harvard University on making the most out of your Parent-Teacher Conference.
I’ve attached a couple of infographics to support this partnership. Praying that your conferences are fruitful and student-centered in support of growth towards the formation of their faith, their social-emotional well-being, and their academic success.
ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL IMPACTS STUDENT GROWTH
Attached is an infographic about the dramatic impact of attendance in student performance. We understand that the pandemic, return to work policies, and remote work opportunities provided an opportunity to travel when airfare is much more reasonable and there are less crowds. However, we ask that you consider the impact on your child’s learning when making these decisions.
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS | BLESSING OF THE LAUDATO SI’ MURAL
Tuesday, October 4th is Saint Francis’ feast. Join us at 11:45 A.M. in the Middle School “Friendship Breezeway” for the blessing of the Laudato Si’ mural created by art teacher Vaneysha Hicks. The mural blessing will be followed by the Blessing of the Animals. We invite you to bring furry friends, and all sort of animal family members for a blessing. If “live” pets are not available, have students bring a representation of their animals (pictures, stuffed animals are acceptable). We will gather with Msgr. Fran and student ambassadors for a prayer service before dismissal at 12:30P.
We hope to see many of you there! RSVP for adults and pets!

HVAC UPDATES
Learning from this, we are starting the process for the elementary building now with a proposal to the Diocesan Building Committee to approve the vendor. When that is completed, plans will be drawn and we will begin the ordering of equipment and permitting process, knowing the electrical upgrade will be significant in cost and construction. My earnest hope is that we will complete the HVAC upgrade in the summer of 2023, sooner if all goes well.
I appreciate your understanding of the scope of this work and the amount of time, money, and effort it requires, while running a school and all that entails. If you can help in any way by way of a donation, a grant, or insight with City permits, I welcome your input.
