Write Score Read-Grades 3-5
Students in grades 3-5 will take the Write Score Reading assessments on February 12 and 13 during the ELA block. The assessment has two sections. Section 1, to be given on February 12, will take approximately 60 min. and Section 2, which will be given on February 13, is estimated to take between 60-75 min.
You will use the same Write Score login as in the fall. Please check your rosters by February 5th and let Stephanie Haga know if there are any students missing. The rosters are tied to eSchool and should update as new students are added. We particularly want to know whether students who are in advanced or accelerated ELA are showing up.
Go to portal.writescore.com to login. Then select "rosters" from the menu on the left side of the page.
STEAM Day February 14!
We are excited about our first ever STEAM day which will take place on February 14. Our PTA has reached out to several community partners and companies to help us make this day really special for our students without being too labor intensive for our teachers. I think our students will love it and hopefully some of them will be inspired to consider careers in STEM as they grow up. The schedule for the day is linked below. Please review the schedule carefully and let me know if there are any conflicts I need to consider.
Each grade has four STEAM rotations as well as time set aside for a Valentine’s Party or activity. Your grade level schedule for the entire day is at the top of the page (note: for some grades Specials times have been changed) and your STEAM rotation times and locations are further down the document. PreK, you can decide when it is appropriate to push in with Kindergarten and enjoy some of the STEAM activities as well!
If you are not a homeroom teacher, your room is probably being used by an outside group for the STEAM rotations. The teacher-led activities have been planned by Brandy Davis, and PTA will be providing the materials as well as volunteers to help out. These activities will be shared later. Get excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

January is Gifted Education Month in Georgia
Ever wonder what happens after you screen students through the CISS process?
Students who meet the screening criteria AND who have supporting data gathered from test history, products, and/or advanced content levels are referred for gifted placement testing.
Once referred for testing:
· Parents receive the Parent Notification for Testing Consent Form.
· With parental permission, students are tested by TAG teachers for the gifted program.
· Not all students received the same tests.
· The TAG eligibility team meets to review results of testing.
· Parents receive test results.
· Staffing meeting is held with parents of eligible students
· Students are placed in the gifted program and will begin receiving services in August of 2019.
January is Gifted Education Month in Georgia. Thank you for your support of our gifted students. If the TAG teachers can help you meet the needs of the TAG students, please let us know.

Wanna Be On SGC??
It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council (SGC) has 2 parent/guardian positions and 1 teacher position open for election. Parents or guardians of students who will be attending our school during both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years are eligible to run for the parent/guardian SGC positions.
Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following powers:
* Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan
* Manage the Request for Flexibility process
* Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations
* Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy
* Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance
If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Parent/Guardian Candidate Declaration Form. Forms can be found on our school website starting on February 4th, or you can get a copy of the form from our front office and follow the mailing instructions on the back.
We are very excited about the work and value-add of our SGC. We hope that you will consider running for a position! The Candidate Declaration period ends February 20th and voting in the SGC occurs from March 11th-18th. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit our school’s website or http://www.fultonschools.org/en/about/charter
