The school offices throughout the district are not currently open to the public for everyone's safety. However, the secretaries are working and will respond quickly to phone calls and emails.
First day of School for all students: Monday, September 14th
The Beaverton School District is offering only online learning (CDL - Comprehensive Distance Learning) to begin this school year for all students until Friday, November 13th
Dear West TV families,
The teachers returned to work today from their summer break and are finalizing the daily/weekly schedules for Comprehensive Distance Learning. I will be able to share the finalized schedules with you later this week.
In the meantime, the schedule information below (which is the same for all elementary students across the district) will be helpful for you to prepare for online learning at home:
- Students will be learning 5 days a week.
- The school day for students in all grades is 8:00am to 2:00pm which means any live instruction will take place during that time. Students are still encouraged to complete any assigned work outside of that time.
- Teachers will meet 'live' with their classes each morning from 8:00 to 8:30am to build community and make connections.
- Lunch is from 11:00am to 12:00pm each day.
- PE and Music lessons will alternate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (students will have 2 PE lessons and 2 Music lessons each week).
- Wednesdays may look different than the other days as students may be engaging with other building specialists. Students may also be attending guidance lessons from our Counselor and SEL lessons (Social & Emotional Lessons) from our Student Success Coach. Students will also be able to participate in technology lessons and listen to a read aloud from our Library Assistant. Students may also be participating in other services such as Special Education services or English Language Learner support. Meetings regarding Special Education services may also be held on Wednesday.
The teachers will be hosting Back-to-School Night sessions for families next week to review the daily/weekly schedules on Thursday, September 10th. The teachers will have 2 identical sessions that evening to accommodate families with students in more than one grade. You will receive the Zoom meeting links later this week.
Back-to-School Night - Thursday 9/10
Session 1 will be 6:00-6:45pm
Session 2 will be 7:00-7:45pm
On Wednesday this week all families will receive an email at 2:30pm to let you know who your child's teacher will be this school year.
As a District, we are putting together a set of presentations on topics to assist families with Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) called the Family Toolkit. The district will be sending a communication today with more information.
Each year the 5th graders give a gift to the school and our 5th graders that graduated this past Spring have gifted the school fence art (see picture below).
The district calendar for this year has been updated - important dates are below, as well as school events for September.
Also below is a reminder of important dates coming up later this week and next week (for library book drop off, pre-ordered supply kit pick up, iPad pick up and Chromebook drop off).
The teachers will be contacting each student in their class before school begins - either later this week or next week - to say hello. They are excited to meet their students and for the school year to begin!
5th grade news
Our 5th grade teacher Rachel Youm will be on a leave of absence for the 2020-21 school year. I have hired Lindsay Dance to teach her class. Ms. Dance taught at West TV the year before last. She taught Spanish for three years at West TV and then all PYP Spanish positions were eliminated due to budget cuts at the end of the 2018-19 school year. This past year she taught at Barnes Elementary School in the Beaverton School District.
Ms. Dance has previously taught 5th grade and is excited to return to West TV.
Library Books - Supply Kits - iPads - Chromebooks
We have scheduled a day this week on Thursday, September 3rd for families to pick up school supply kits that were ordered last Spring and to drop off library books. We have 2 separate times that day: one in the morning and one in the evening. See times below.
We have also scheduled a day next week on Tuesday, September 8th for families in grades K-2 to pick up an iPad and drop off a Chromebook (if you have one from last Spring). All students in grades K-2 will be using only iPads this fall for online learning.
Grades 3-5 and middle school students should continue using the device (Chromebook) that was checked out to them in the spring, including current 6th graders. If your student's device is not working, your student did not check out a device in the spring and now needs one, or you are new to our district, please email our Student Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
If you are out of town on September 8th and unable to pick up our child's iPad for grades K-2 you may fill out a Student Help Desk form at this email address, email@example.com. We will contact you to arrange a date and time to pick it up.

Tuesday, September 8th - iPads & Chromebooks
Grades K-2 only

*Drop off a Chromebook (if you have one from last Spring)
- It is recommended that parents pick up a district issued iPad for the student to use and not use an iPad they may have already at home.
- If a student signed out a chromebook in the spring, we request that they bring the chromebook and charger to the IPAD Distribution.
- Parents will need to know their student ID number when they come to pick up an iPad. *If you don't know your student's ID number, please contact the school office.
- Please fill out this card Device Checkout Info Card.pdf prior to arriving - it will help speed up the process and help us maintain social distancing. The card is not required to receive an IPAD.

School Supplies & PE Equipment purchased by the PTC for all students for online learning
Our wonderful PTC met last week and approved the purchase of specific PE equipment requested by our PE teacher Ms. Cereda for each student to have at home for online learning. The PE equipment includes several different balls, a jump rope, sidewalk chalk and balloons (see list below).
When they are ready to be picked up I will let you know. *Please note: these items will not need to be returned to the school at a later date - they are yours to keep.

The PTC also agreed to purchase supplies specifically requested by classroom teachers for each student to have at home for online learning. *Please note that these items are not the items on the school supply list - the teachers would like for families to still purchase the school supply list items for when we return to in-school learning (hopefully in mid-November). The school supply list is below and also on the school website.
We will do our best to have the school supplies & the PE equipment ready for pick up on the same day.
