IMPORTANT UPDATE: In-Person Learning Cancelled
A Message from Superintendent Seegmiller - April 21st
"The COVID-19 crisis has affected all of us in ways we would not have anticipated and disrupted our lives for much longer than we could have imagined. Back in March, we were hopeful that students would return to their classrooms after an extended spring break. Unfortunately, the reality is students will not be able to return this school year.
On a conference call this morning, Governor Jared Polis shared with Colorado superintendents the state's Safer at Home precautions for May and likely June. He communicated that in-person schooling is canceled for the remainder of this school year and that the state is actively working on what school will look like in the fall. In the scenario where the virus is still with us and there is no cure or vaccine, he indicated that school may look different with safety measures and social distancing built into the fabric. He said that while he hopes and expects students will be back at school this fall, districts should be prepared to shift to remote learning if needed. Should this occur, remote learning in Weld RE-4 will continue to evolve and look different than it did this spring, prioritizing new learning and additional accountability.
Please know, continuing remote learning is a priority for students through the last day of the 2019-20 school year (May 21). In early May, each school will communicate a plan for students to come back into the building to retrieve personal items. Pick-up procedures are aligned with social distancing protocols and will be reviewed with the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment.
In the final weeks of school, you can expect that our schools will continue to refine and improve their remote learning plans to support the emotional and academic success of students. This includes our graduating Windsor High School seniors as they make the transition to their next steps in life. The governor informed superintendents that traditional graduation ceremonies will likely not be possible until late fall. We will find ways to celebrate this important milestone in our students’ lives. Additionally, the district will continue providing meals and technology devices and support through at least the last day of school. Further guidance will be forthcoming regarding traditional summer activities.
This is not how we envisioned ending the school year. Like many of you, we feel disappointed and saddened. However, overshadowing those feelings is an incredible sense of hope and faith. Even though we are physically distanced, I believe our sense of community has never been stronger. Under unprecedented circumstances, our teachers are finding new ways to connect and support our students and one another. Our community and our school district will never be the same… we expect it will be better.
We look forward to welcoming our students, families, and staff back to school. Stay healthy and safe."
You can find the answer to other frequently asked questions on our new remote learning website. The website has student expectations and a link to mental health and wellness supports. We will continue to add information, such as technology troubleshooting and more about what remote learning looks like at each level, moving forward.
