Cheltenham Elementary School

On May 27, 2015, twenty-one CHS high school students visited Cheltenham Elementary to serve as guest readers. The high school students brought along their favorite books and shared a little about themselves to each of the classes that they visited. It was a wonderful experience for both the high school students and the elementary students whose classrooms they visited!

OPERATION GRATITUDE- See message from senior at CHS

Hello Parents,

For the next two weeks, we will be collecting donation items for Operation Gratitude, as part of a project I have been organizing this month. Operation Gratitude is a service organization that provides care packages to soldiers overseas, and we are asking for donations that we will then send to the headquarters in California that will be put in care packages and sent off. Below is a list of the items that can be contributed-- there is a collection box in the main office of the school.

Toiletries: toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, travel-size mouth wash, individually packaged razors, lip-balm (sealed), roll-on deodorant, shaving cream, individual packets of moist towelettes, travel-sized foot powder, hand and foot warmers

Entertainment: comic books (perfect condition), travel-size board games, beanie babies (that are given to some of the children in the areas the soldiers go to), headsets, used video games/ video game systems/ iPods

Food: ramen, Girl Scout cookies, powdered drinks, candy, ready-to-eat tuna/chicken salad kits, energy bars, beef jerky, individual packets of trail mix, nuts, energy bars, sunflower seeds; other healthy snacks

Clothes (new): baseball caps, gloves, shirts, socks, knit hats/scarves/neck gators, bandanas

Other: sport water bottles (<11inches tall), yarn, pens, holiday and general occasion greeting cards (blank)

Additionally, Operation Gratitude asks that students (or anyone of any age, really) write thank-you letters to include in these care packages. It is nice to include a bit about yourself, though the purpose of the letter is to express our gratitude for their service. Further instructions on what to write in these letters can be found at Letters can be placed in an un-sealed envelope and also dropped in the box.

Thank you so much for all of your help and support,

Vivienne Acuña
