YEAR 10 EXCURSION - 2019 WOMEN IN RESOURCES INSPIRING GIRLS FORUM
The forum was held at RAC Arena in Perth and gave the girls an insight into the possibilities for women in the resources sector. The girls worked as a team in an activity to locate and drill a new minesite. They worked alongside industry professionals to develop problem solving, communication and data analysis skills. In a 'speed dating' activity the girls quizzed women from industry about their job roles, their qualifications and their career pathways.
The girls were praised for their team work skills and their level of participation in all the activities.
"All of the speeches and activities conducted on the day were all incredible opportunities for all of us to learn more about the resources sector that drives our economy and also to work on our teamwork, advancing everyone's skills. From today, after speaking to many wonderful women, I learnt that no choice is permanent. My mind was opened to many different opportunities and pathways out there. As long as people stay true to themselves, they can power through any inequalities and reach somewhere where they are passionate about". - Set.
"I loved how the day was split up into a group activity and speed dating. The activity really got me going and challenged our ability to work as a team and even though we didn't win, I still throughly enjoyed myself. I took lots of notes in the speed dating and got heaps of advice which will help me in the near future when I have to make choices for my career. Thank you so much for inviting me to this, I enjoyed every moment." - Kaina
Our thanks are extended to Mineral Resources for ongoing sponsorship for this event. Our thanks also extends to Karen Hearne from Mineral Resources for her organisation.
