5th Grade Awards Breakfast

Our Annual 5th Grade Awards Breakfast will be held on Monday, May 23rd at 7:30 a.m. Please RSVP to your teacher as soon as possible so that we know how many people will be in attendance. This is a wonderful time to celebrate our 5th grade students and all of their accomplishments.

Longtime Kindergarten Assistant Retires

If you have had a child walk through our Kindergarten program throughout previous years, chances are your child and you have interacted with Kindergarten Assistant Mrs. Wagley. After 26 years service to Plainfield Schools she has made the decision to retire.

You and your children are invited to join us in wishing Mrs. Wagley good luck in her retirement and to reminisce with her over all the memories she has helped create over the years! Please see the details for her Open House below.

2016-2017 Kindergarten Call Out!!!

If you have a child who will be 5 years old by August 1, 2016 AND you live within the Brentwood Elementary School district limits please contact the Brentwood Office at 317-839-4802 or fill out the enrollment packet available by clicking HERE.

In addition to the enrollment packet we will need a copy of your child's official birth certificate, a copy of their immunization records, a copy of your lease or purchase agreement for your residence, and a copy of a current utility bill.

The next Kindergarten Screening date is scheduled for Tuesday, July 26, 2016 so please contact our office ASAP to be included in these screenings.

Looking for Field Day Volunteers

Brentwood's annual last-horah event: Field Day will be on Friday, May 20th.

If you want to help with Field Day, and have not received a sign-up paper from Mrs. Eakes please contact her by email or phone. phone: 839-4802 ext. 3106.

Grades 3-5 will participate in the morning, grades K-2 will participate in the afternoon. All volunteers must have a background check on file.

Kids' Summer Lunch Bunch

After enjoying lunch together, a group of friends in Plainfield realized that some in their community were without lunch and friends to share it with. In 2003, they created the Kids' Summer Lunch Bunch to provide sack lunches and socialization to children in Plainfield.

The Lincoln Bank Charitable Foundation, through the Hendricks County Community Foundation, awarded the group a grant that made it possible to begin serving lunches in the summer of 2004. The Lunch Bunch operated with the support and guidance of the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

The Hendricks County community provides healthy sack lunches, free books, exercise and socialization to children of all ages during the summer months. The Lunch Bunch is funded through community donations and operated by volunteers. Each of the participating towns have customized programs based on local resources and preferences.

Plainfield Guilford Library Summer Reading Club

The Summer Reading Club is a summer-long literacy and library awareness initiative that encourages people of all ages to actively engage in their library and community. Pre-registration for the Summer Reading Club begins early May, and the program runs from June 1st – July 31st. The Summer Reading Club begins with a kick-off party from 5:30-7:30 on Wednesday, June 1st, and this year the theme is “Summer Reading Club 2016: On Your Mark, Get Set…READ!

New field for parent info in PowerSchool

The Indiana General Assembly recently enacted House Enrolled Act 1319, which requires school corporations to annually report if a student’s parent or guardian is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States and meets the following criteria:

  • is on active duty,
  • is an active member of the reserve component of a branch of the Armed Forces, or
  • is an active member of the National Guard.

In order to make it simple for those parents who are serving our country in one of these capacities, we’ve added a section to Power School. All parents will see this the next time they log in to Power School. If you meet the above criteria, please check the appropriate box. Likewise, you can select ‘no’ if this does not apply. Please note that the information is to be noted for each student enrolled in our schools.

We must compile this data for the current academic year; going forward, it will become part of the annual registration and information update process.

We greatly appreciate your help as we update these records.

Lunchroom No-Charge Policy Going into Effect

Starting Monday, May 9th, our cafeteria will enforce our NO charging policy for breakfast and lunch. PLEASE keep your child's lunch account current with money for lunch. If your child eats breakfast at school PLEASE make sure their account is funded for that as well, as breakfast is an important start to a child's day.

If your child's account is in the negative and they do NOT have a lunch, they will have to call home to have a lunch or money brought to them.

2016 Strength & Speed Camp - Incoming 1-8th Grade Students

Coach Vanderbush is in his 23rd year as the head strength and conditioning coach at Plainfield High School. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the National and Conditioning Association. Head Football Coach will be the co-coordinator of this camp. This camp will focus on age appropriate strength training exercises and speed development techniques. There will be major emphasis on functional strength exercises, acceleration and dynamic agility. They will do things such as lunges, push-ups, medicine ball work, speed harnesses, etc...

  • Brainstorming product ideas and building original prototypes using real tools and components found in everyday devices.
  • Exploring the lives of giant insects, colorful animals and their environments.
  • Construction and personalizing a DIY solar-powered cricket with a unique habitat.
  • Discovering the science of slime, demolition, electronic sound, giant squid and coding.

Transportation Arrival & Dismissal Info

Student Arrivals (car riders):

All car riders arriving in the morning should be dropped off in our car rider lane NOT in our Visitor Parking lot. This ensures they are not crossing over any traffic.

Late Arrivals:

If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office and sign them in.

Student Arrivals (bus riders):

If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat as healthy of a breakfast as possible.

Dismissal Changes:
  • If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note to your child's teacher.
  • If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 2:30 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.

If you are permanently changing how your child goes home or if you move please notify our office at 317-839-4802, as well as Transportation at 317-838-3632, and submit a new Transportation Form to the office.

Volunteer News & Information:

Chaperones and classroom volunteers play an important role in schools. Without them, creative educational experiences inside and outside of the classroom would be more difficult to accomplish. In order to keep students safe, chaperones and classroom volunteers must fill out the following forms:

  1. Volunteer Background Agreement
  2. Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement (ask at front office the first time you come in to volunteer)
  3. Read & understand our Emergency Procedures Handout (ask for your copy at the front office)
  4. Read & understand our "Facts about Bullying" handout (ask for your copy at the front office)

Some guidelines to follow when volunteering at Brentwood (please refer to our handbook for more):

  • You may only take photos of your own child. Photos may not be taken of friends or other students and should NEVER be posted on social media sources without the consent of the classroom teacher and the other parents.
  • You should avoid taking or making phone calls while supervising students unless for an emergency or communication is needed on a field trip.
  • You should not bring other children along on a field trip.
  • You must immediately report incidents or suspected incidents of bullying, physical, and/or verbal aggression to a teacher.
