One of the first to be diagnosed with MPD
Vivet was born on February 12, 1863. His mother was a prostitue and beat and neglected him., Started stealing when he was 8, and was sent to a house of corrections until he was 18. He became paralyzed from the waist down due to severe trauma from a viper wrapping itself around his hand, and biting him. Vivet went on to work as a tailor during his paralysis, until 1 1/2 years later,then regained strength in his legs and began walking.
Louis Vivet was one of the first patients to be diagnosed with MPD. Within one year of his diagnosis, the term "multiple personality" appeared in psychological literature in direct reference to Vivet
