Magers Memo
August 30th, 2019
Please take 2 minutes to watch Brian Mendler...as behaviors start to ramp up-we have to retrain our brains.
It's Almost September!
Thank you for your active participation in our Equity & Access training. I think it was a great reminder to think before speaking but also a great opportunity to reflect on our own bias's, so we can have a greater awareness. I was able to personally think about several situations where my goal was to be "good"-let's be real, it is always my goal. My new goal is to be "goodish" and consider my impact rather than my intentions. I couldn't find a bitmoji that was "goodish" so I went with good-but imagine and "ish" on the end :). Below are some reminders from last week's memo and some new items from this past week. Have a great first week of September!
NEW:
- Document cameras for classrooms are on order and will arrive in 2-4 weeks. We will keep you posted.
- Please check the committee list here, to see dates for training's.
- Please click here to upload your master schedule and a link to your lesson plans. This will help me in scheduling observations and also to know what I am seeing when I pop in your classrooms. Lesson plans are the MOST important thing. Planning intentional lessons, based on student data is the MOST effective approach. I would never ask you to do "busy" work or change something based on me coming in to your classroom...etc. I do believe in the power of thorough lesson plans. If you are not being intentional in your planning, your instruction will not be intentional. I appreciate your intense planning and also sharing those plans with me, to help keep me in the loop of what is happening in your classroom.
- Please complete your Growth Plan in Tower by next Thursday, September 5th. Joanna and I will be reviewing plans and providing feedback the following day and week.
- Here is the Illustrative Math Fidelity Check, for your information.
- Please add all specialty teachers, Sukany, Heslin and Joanna and I to your newsletters so we will be informed of what is happening in your classrooms. Thank you!
REMINDERS:
- It's time to start thinking about BOY Fidelity Checks. Please sign-up here for your BOY Fidelity Check.
- Every teacher should have two days of emergency sub plans. Here is the folder that houses the emergency sub plans. Please add your plans by Friday, September 6th. You may also delete sub plans from last year, or edit them for this year. Thank you!
- Drill follow up: Great job on Fire and Intruder Drill this week! We will have an Alice training this year, but until then...please review the "Armed Intruder Exit Plans" that you and your co-teacher created last year after the Alice Training. If you are a new co-teaching partnership you may want to review together to ensure you are both on board with the plan. Here is the folder you put your plans in. Please review and/or update.

TST Update from Robyn & Amber:
As of this week, the TST process is up and running in SPS. We wanted to make sure you know that you already have access to your students’ TST documentation from last year in your Google folder. It can be really helpful to read about last year’s interventions and progress so you know where to start. Please remember that we start a new intervention log every year. This year, SPS is rolling out new logs. We have just seen them ourselves and our first reaction is excitement because they appear to be more user friendly. More to come on that at our next staff meeting in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, please continue to document the interventions and the data showing the results of those interventions with your TST students...you can do this in a binder, google doc, or a restaurant napkin :-).
You might also have new students who you believe should be in TST, or returning students who have not been in TST but you are already very concerned about. You can fill out the TST Request for Assistance form anytime (this form is slightly different than last year but appears to also be more user friendly). Again, feel free to wait until the form is presented at our staff meeting to begin filling it out; however, just as you are doing for your current students in TST, document the interventions and data results so that information can easily be plugged into the form.
We’re excited to have some time to work with you at our next staff meeting. That presentation will also include some TST work time. Please reach out any time you want to brainstorm intervention strategies or need help with your data or forms. We’re looking forward to amazing stories of progress this year. Thanks for all you do to support students.
