READ IN:
This Friday is our READ IN. Kids are invited to bring a small blanket and pillow from home, as well as a selection of books and magazines. Throughout the day we will be doing different reading activities. We will be reading on our own, with a friend and even with buddies.
NO NAME PAPERS: Students who do not have their name on their paper will have to redo the assignment. No name papers will be recycled.
MISTAR/GRADES - For this final marking period the kiddos will have access to all of their grades after spring break. Students will complete mistar checks weekly. We will do the checks on Friday and then the signed slip and any missing work will be due on Monday. Students who do not return their signed slip will loose half of their recess on Monday.
Curriculum Update
Reading -
We are back in Journeys. This week our story is all about service dogs. We are working on sequencing events as well as finding details to support the main idea!
Writing-
Persuasive letters are done. Those will get graded over Spring Break. This week we are working on goals for the next trimester. Kids will be bringing those home when we return from break.
Math -
We are working on our fraction unit. Kids have learned how to make equivalent fractions, compare fractions, decompose fractions, add fractions, subtract fractions as well as mulitply fractions. When we return from break we will be doing our review. The test for unit 7 will be on Thursday, April 13th.
Science -
This week we have started our electricity/magnetism unit. Kids have had a chance to explore the classroom for things that stick to magnets.
Social Studies -
Midwest States/Caps test is coming home today. Kids brought home flashcards for the southwest and west regions. We are testing those two regions together. The test for those will be on Thursday, April 20th.
Technology Reminders
1. Children are only allowed to touch the chromebook that is assigned to them.
2. They should never give out their password to anyone but mom/dad.
3. Only search teacher directed websites and/or research topics.
4. Be on the website or app the teacher has directed and stay focused on that task.
4. Use two hands when carrying their computer from cart to desk and back. Chromebooks are kept in cart after school hours.
5. When in doubt, have a problem or anything questionable, ask/tell Mrs. Gray, or any other adult/teacher they are working with immediately.
6. All google accounts and chromebooks are district owned...checking history can occur through the district server.
7. Kids should log out of their google account at the end of each day.
8. No eating and/or drinking around chromebooks.
9. Students are not allowed to delete history.
I also suggest you checking your child's HISTORY in their google account settings. You can check their history by logging into their google account and then typing Control-H. This will bring up everything they have done on the computer (websites visited to even words that were searched.) I will be doing random checks at school as well.
Children need these reminders because they are young still and the internet can be a dangerous place. We want to practice responsible digital citizenship.
If students are not following the above guidelines they will be asked to put their chromebook away for the rest of the day.
Thanks much!
