Causes of the American Revolution
1776-1787
First it started with a series of things like the French and Indian War
The French and Indian war was a big part of the American Revolution because it gave land to the English and the English put taxes on a lot of things because the war was very costly and the king didn't want to start anymore costly wars. But the taxes made a lot of the colonists mad and they didn't want to pay extra for everything.
The Navigation Act and The Proclamation of 1763
The purpose of the Navigation act was to put mercantilism into practice. The Navigation act was basically running everyone dry out of resources and money because what was going on was they were giving Britain materials for money and Britain would make it into something useful and sell it for more money so they were losing money and materials.
The Proclamation of 1763 basically stated that the colonists would not go on the land the English had got from the French because it was for the Indians and that made the colonists very upset that they got the Ohio river Valley for nothing at all.
Some of the Acts
Stamp act
The Stamp Act said that every stamp to go on paper would be taxed. That made colonists even more upset because they didn't want to lay that tax so they argued with the king and the King repealed that act and brought the Quaterin act.
Quartering act and The Townshed Act
The Quartering act made colonists house and feed the British troops which made colonists very mad because they didn't think that it was there job to let a stranger come in.
The Townshed act put taxes on Tea, Paper, and Glass to pay for the military for the Quartering Act. But by 1770 they repealed most of the taxes and just left the tea tax but colonists were still mad.
The Boston Massacare and the Boston Tea party
The Boston Massacare was when a group of Colonists were rallying to stop all of the taxes. Later in that rally soldiers had to step in and shots were fired and five people died. Samuel Adams used this information as leverage on himself so he could get people even more mad.
After the Boston Massacare some of the Son Of Liberty group dressed up in Indian costumes and poured millions of dollars worth of tea into the Boston Harbor and this made the King very mad.
Coercive Act
Intolerable Acts also known As the Coericive acts
This Act was a very big punishment for the Boston Tea party. This act stopped all trade with Boston and Britain, did not allow town meetings, it gave Britain more control over the colony, and strengthend the quartering act. This act greatly impacted the economy but this act started a lot of Revolutionary conflict.
