Central Asia and the Caucasus

Lots of mountains, steppes, and deserts
The Pamirs, Tien Shan, and Caucasus are three of the more famous mountain chains in the region. Kara Kum and Kyzyl Kum are two of the deserts of the area. The steppes of Kazakhstan are for grazing and herding livestock.
Apples
Kazakhstan is home to the apple. Apples grew wild in Central Asia 2 to 10 million years ago. They were about the size of the modern day crabapple.
