James Madison Discovery Center
Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year!
About our Library:
We utilize a "flexible schedule" meaning that we are open and available for teachers and students to utilize at any time during school hours. Our center uses an automated circulation system and the students are allowed to check our 2 books at a time, due back in a week. All users are responsible for lost or damaged materials checked out to them, as well as to ensure that materials are properly returned. Overdue notices are set out periodically. There are no fines charged for overdue books, however students may be restricted from borrowing if they have more than 2 books out. Lost or damaged books may be billed to the patron.
The Center strives to lead our students to be independent readers, to explore a variety of books, and to be excited about choosing what books they would like to read. Students will be encouraged to choose books on their levels, while also respecting interests and free choice.
We will add over 100 new titles to our collection each year, including e books!
At each grade, students will be introduced to digital citizenship and research and computer skills. They will have a chance to develop these skills during Tech class, and when they visit the library with their teacher.
We have many special events planned for this year including Book Fair in October and Tin Caps Reading Program, and the introduction of our e-book collection!
