Machias Elementary's Veterans Day Program

It is our pleasure to welcome you to our annual Veteran’s Day program. It is at this time of year that we stop to pay tribute to those who have served and are serving to protect the basic freedoms of Americans. We at Machias will miss the rich tradition of watching the staff, students and our community embrace and honor our Veterans in person.

Machias families, we encourage you to take time to watch our assembly together and share this link with your honored Veterans; whether they be near or far.

To our Veterans, we honor you, we salute you, and we welcome you once again to our virtual assembly.

Machias Distribution - November 18

Our next round of curriculum distribution will be Wednesday, November 18 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Parent Pick Up Loop (in front of the school). We ask for families to stay in their cars and please wear a face mask. A staff member will gather your child’s/children’s materials from organized bins and hand them to you through your window. In order to expedite the process, we would ask for you to hold up a piece of paper with your child’s/children’s name(s) as you drive through the pickup area.

To ease traffic flow, we would request your arrival at these times (by last name):

  • 2:00-3:00 A-F
  • 3:00-4:00 G-M
  • 4:00-5:00 N-S
  • 5:00-6:00 T-Z

If for some reason you are unable to pick up on Wednesday, a friend/neighbor/family member may pick up on your behalf.

Bobcat Pen Pal Club

Are you looking for a way to stay connected with your classmates while learning at home? Look no further. Machias Elementary is organizing a schoolwide pen pal program that will allow you to connect with another student within your grade level. Signing up is easy, simply write a letter addressed to “Pen Pal” and bring it to be turned in on Distribution Day on November 18th. Pen pals will then be randomly partnered up and letters will be delivered at the following Distribution Day on December 9th. Feel free to get creative with your mail, just be sure it can fit into an envelope!

Zoom protocols being implemented

As a school district, it is very important to us that we continue to cultivate a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students and staff. To this end, we are implementing extra security measures and protocols around Zoom as indicated below. These extra security measures and protocols will go into effect on Friday, October 9.

Beginning Friday, October 9, students will need to access Zoom, Canvas, Seesaw and other applications through Hello ID after logging in through their district email accounts. When accessing these applications, please use your default browser (Chrome recommended). Click here for a handout and information on how to access Hello ID. Hello ID is accessible as an icon on the main pages of every school and district webpage.

Further locked security settings being implemented:

  • The use of virtual backgrounds will not permitted district wide.
  • Zoom participants will be unable to rename themselves district wide.
  • Screen sharing by participants will be turned off. The teacher will be able to enable screen sharing for individual students.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the district’s Teaching and Learning Services department at 360-563-7251.
