CFIE Mission:
IMPORTANT REMINDERS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD!
- Parents - please complete the School Counselor's Parent Needs Assessment Survey if you have not already - https://forms.office.com/r/gRRMFTUXmV
- Don't forget to FALL BACK and turn your clocks back one hour on Sunday, November 6th!
- SAFETY NOTICE- Our SRO, Officer Smith, has noticed that some of the cars in our car rider line are not adhering to the laws regarding crosswalks. Cars should never be in the crosswalk space idling while waiting to move forward in the line. This is dangerous for our students walking to and from school. The turn into the parking lot that has the two crosswalks has been the most problematic. Also, be mindful of the crosswalk in front of the breezeway - cars cannot stop on the crosswalk to let out/pick up their child. Continued disregard of the crosswalk could result in getting a ticket and we do not want that for any of our families. Thank you for all you do to keep our students safe!
- Please keep your child's lunch account up to date so they have enough money on their account to purchase their breakfast/lunch and, if you allow, snacks. OCS makes it easy by having a way to make payments online!
Red Ribbon Week at CFIE: 10/24 - 10/31!
TITLE I NEWS!
Here is the link to the Title I Page on our school website: https://www.onslow.k12.nc.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=31087
This link will take you to the resources shared last week at our parent workshop. You will find documents and links that were shared. Please make sure to check out the links to the website available for reading resources/books! If you have not signed up for free public library membership, do so ASAP as there are many resources available through them as well!
On the website you will also find a link for resource bags. Reminders will be going out/have been sent out to return any bags currently checked out, and new bags will be sent home that have been requested. We are currently in the process of creating Spanish resource bags, so please look for more information to come forth soon!

Joining "Forces" - Ms. Feijoo's & Mrs. Suthard's Kindergarten Classes Learn About Sink and Float Together in Both English & Spanish!
Fourth and Fifth Graders Engage in Critical Thinking with thinkLaw in Ms. Moistner's Class!
Before starting the case investigations, students review the "Think Law Norms (Guide to respectful and civil discussions): Criticize the idea, not the person; Use "I" statements; Don't interrupt; Agree to Disagree; and Listen, even if you disagree." This practice of working in teams and using norms to guide the discussions is what one would see in the real-world, where teams in many careers need to problem-solve together!

MFLC Support Corner
"This month, our Nation honors the strength and sacrifices of the families, caregivers, and survivors of our veterans and our current service members. They may not wear uniforms, but their service is essential to our national security and the character of our Nation. We owe them a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay. To be a veteran or a service member is to have endured and survived challenges most Americans will never know. To be the family of one of those proud patriots is to sacrifice more for our country than most Americans will ever give. During National Veterans and Military Families Month, we pay homage to the unrelenting bravery and dedication of all who wear the uniform and to the unwavering love and support of all who serve alongside them. Families who put their lives on hold so our military can hold the line represent the best of America, and we will always remember what they do for our Nation."
...and so begins the 2022 National Veteran and Military Families Month Proclamation by the US President and Commander of the Armed Forces.
This month a bulletin board honoring Veterans and Military Families of CFIE staff and faculty and memorializing the importance of our military community will grace the hallway. Military-affiliated students, whose parents have submitted parental consents for military group, will learn their unique role in helping to keep America safe as they sometimes endure lengthy parent deployments. They will be reminded that their sacrifice is appreciated, and they are not alone.
A holiday card drive began last week requesting that parents have their students bring in unused holiday cards either new or from previous years, before November 18th so that our students can share season greetings to local veterans and military members who will be away from their families over the holiday season.
Ms. Luna, our Art teacher, will be making holiday cards with her classes. The homemade holiday cards will be added to the cards from the community drive; your MFLC and the Military Liaison will partner in sending cards out to our military far and wide.
Thank you for your service, thank you for your sacrifices to keep the United States safe!
