MTSD Parent Newsletter

Message from the Superintendent's Office
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Mansfield Township Public Schools have been hard at work accomplishing the tasks necessary to provide its students the benefits of a quality education. Students are not only learning the core academic subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science, but learning the technological, critical thinking, and character education skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing society. The daily work of teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff all helps to accomplish these educational goals on a daily basis.
Our Administrative Team also is busy planning for the remaining school events and programs for this academic year as well as beginning initial planning for the next school year. Providing a thorough and efficient education for students requires careful thought, planning, and consideration by many school community members. Please welcome a new administrator we have joining us this week. Dr. Joseph Campisi, will be our Interim Supervisor of Special Services, until mid-April, when Mr. Jason Shainline will be joining our team as the Supervisor of Special Services.
Looking ahead to the Spring, we all look forward to the warmer days, the longer daylight hours, and the buzz around the ball fields. Resuming an outside schedule once again will be exciting for us all. Please remember that there are still many important days and lessons left in this school year.
Our students in grades 3-6 will be taking the PARCC assessment in the Spring. Although the students should be well-prepared for this assessment, please help the school system by ensuring students arrive to school consistently and promptly as well as come ready to learn each day.
Please see below for a variety of parent events I will be hosting in the second portion of the school year.
There are many exciting things taking place in Mansfield this coming summer. Please consider sending your child to our MTSD 2019 Summer Camp. Mrs. Ashley Raywood, is the coordinator and will be communicating the first week of March with registration information for the camp.
Last but not least, education is a process that works best when community members work together to support focused, learning objectives for students. Parental involvement in a child’s education is very important. Research shows that when parents are involved in their child’s education, achievement increases. Please continue to stay involved in your child’s learning and the wonderful events CHAS offers our students.
Those purposeful questions you ask, those thoughtful schedules you put in place, and those high expectations you hold are critically important to the success your child will experience in the future.
Looking forward to the warmer and brighter days ahead.

From Special Services
Meet our Interim of Special Services
I am a veteran of 19 years in the public education system with 11 years as an administrator and of those 6 years as a Chief School Administrator or an Assistant Superintendent. Last September I made the decision to step away from the field of education to spend some time at home with my newborn child. This was a wonderful experience helped me gain perspective about the direction I wanted for my career.
During my experience as a Chief School Administrator, I have simultaneously held the duties of Director of Special Education. I was responsible for the supervision of several administrators at the school and district level, budgeting, educational programming for General and Special Education. Planning school and districtwide professional development and handling the NCLB grants. I have also held the responsibility of being the Chair for the Policy and Legislation Committees as well. In order to be the most complete school district leader I can be, I also earned my School Business Administrator Certificate of Eligibility. This has been crucial in facing fiscal challenges in the current era of education.
In November, I was contacted by the Burlington Township School District and asked to begin doing per diem work with their Special Education Department (Structured Learning Experience Program, consulting, teacher coaching, data analysis, and other special projects) in collaboration with their Assistant Superintendent of Special Education.
It is my pleasure to join the Mansfield Township School District as the Interim Supervisor of Special Education. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

That was followed by parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child's progress thus far. So far the Care Crew Club has made over 200 sandwiches for the guests at Cathedral Kitchen. An organization that serves the homeless and needy in Camden, New Jersey. During our December meeting, the club created over 50 bags of trail mix. The students in the club have also made place mats for the guests at Cathedral Kitchen. Our current project is for the Guadalupe Mission in Camden, New Jersey. The club is currently collecting much needed baby wipes until December 17th. Thank you to all who donated!
JHES
Dear Partners in Learning,
February is such a fun time to be an early childhood educator. There are so many fun and engaging topics to learn about during this month such as President's Day, Black History Month, Valentine's Day, Dental Health, 100th Day, and Groundhog's Day. There is always so much happening here at JHES. Walk into any classroom and see our students engaged in meaningful, fun lessons. JHES is truly a fun place to learn!
We began the month of February by celebrating the Kid of Character trait: Kindness. The students are currently working on a Kindness challenge. Once they have completed all 28 challenges, they will receive a small incentive from me. "Spread kindness like confetti!" They will also be working with Mrs. Katz on their character education lesson for the month. I am looking forward to handing out our Kid of Character awards towards the end of the month.
As you have likely heard, we have been giving out PawSome charms for students who are caught being a good friend, giving their best effort in a certain subject or special area, and for celebrating birthdays and lost teeth. Students enjoy receiving the charms to add to their bracelets and I truly enjoy handing them out. I am seeing students motivated to read because they want to earn that Reading Superstar charm!
Although the calendar on our website has all of the dates, here are a few highlights:
