Great Things Taking Place on Campus
Art Escape
Sassarini is excited to partner with Art Escape in offering a new after school art program for students who have a strong interest in art. This program is open to students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. It will take place every Tuesday from March 1st through May 31st (with the exception of March 22nd, the Tuesday during spring break). Each session will be a 2 hour session after school from 2:35pm-4:35pm and will take place at the picnic benches next to the basketball courts. This entire art program, including all supplies, will be provided through a generous grant from Impact100 at no cost to Sassarini students.
Students may apply for this program by filling out the form and hand delivering it to the school office no later than Tuesday, February 23rd. Email and phone registrations will not be accepted. The first 12 students to return the completed form will be chosen for the art program and notified via phone or e-mail.
If more than 12 student apply they will be placed on a wait list. If a student does not attend the first class their spot will be given to a wait-listed student.

A Message from Katie Welch
Last we week we started a whole new quarter of weekly enrichment activities for our Club Members. Some of the new activities we are excited for Members to participate in now include;
· Basketball
· Mural Art
· The BGC News Channel-Members report in a newscast format on the events happening weekly at our Club
· Now & Then-Members review old TV shows (such as “The Munsters” & “Leave it to Beaver”) to compare present day to the past
· Ultimate Frisbee
· Robotics (starting in mid-January)
· Toaster Oven Cooking
· Acting-Members will sign up to work in drama groups, culminating in a mini play for the Club
· Breakdancing
· Kids Speak for Pets-In partnership with Pet’s Lifeline, Members take a fieldtrip to meet rescued pets and write advertisements to help them get adopted
We are happy to report that our 1st & 2nd literacy pilot is going well, and that we are seeing success with our coding program (aimed at 4th & 5th graders) as well. These programs were implemented to make the most of out of the hour we spend on academics each day. We are also looking forward to incorporating Lexia into our 5th grade homework time as an alternative to free reading. We hope that this move will allow us to better meet our Members where they are with literacy and provide them with more targeted support.
Friendly Reminders
Transitiions
Please make every effort to pick-up your students on time after every recess, and at the start of school. There is a 3 minute before bell to ensure kids are in line and ready by 8:15 AM. Students should be inside classrooms as close to 8:15, and recess ending times as possible. This reduces lag time in line for the students, and it maximizes instructional time. Thank you in advance for being timely!
Be aware of our dismissal time, and make sure you are not dismissing your students too early. We need to make sure we are maximizing our instructional minutes. I appreciate your support.
