There culture
Before 1871, there was no single country called Germany. The area was a group cities and territories in which people spoke German. Some of the people worked together and got along but others fought over land and religion.

When and Why they came
Here is why
They came for religious freedom. also religion of there choice. 1683-1800 about 200,000 Germans came to America. Many of them came after world war 1 and 2.

It was very crowded on the ships when Germans came to America. These immigrants are shown on the SS Prince Fredrick Wilhelm in 1915
Life in Germany
In Europe, many German families lived in the same town for hundreds of years. Men worked at trades or did farm work. Women usually took care of the family and did house work.
Were they settled and Celebrations
The first German immigrants settled in Pennsylvania in the United States. Even today, many German traditions are part of the American traditions. There most famous celebrations are festivals

Recipe for German pancakes
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup 2% milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Confectioners' sugar
