PARENT FEEDBACK ABOUT LEARNING AT HOME
Our school inquiry for 2018 is to inquire into how we can move children from being passive to actively engaged in their learning. We are hoping you can answer two questions to assist us with our review and next steps planning. Please click on the link to assist us:
PRIMARY TEACHERS & PRINCIPALS PROPOSED STRIKE ACTION - TUESDAY 13TH NOVEMBER
The Board of Trustees can’t provide teaching for students during the upcoming strike. The NZEI has advised our Board of Trustees that Mrs Waite and the teaching staff at our school will be taking strike action on Tuesday 13 November 2018. The Board has carefully considered the availability of teaching staff, and unfortunately decided that we can’t provide the normal teaching services during the strike. It’s important that you make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike. The school will need to close during this strike. We know that this is inconvenient for parents and students alike, but please be assured that student safety is our main concern. Thank you for your understanding. Toko School Board of Trustees.

A massive well done to the girls Toko 1 team who won their section. Also a great effort by the girls Toko 2 team who finished 13th. In the boys race Toko 1 finished in 15th and Toko 2 in 22nd. Thank you to those parents who provided transport.
National Chess Tournament
Slade competed in a New Zealand National Chess Championship in Auckland last week and had a great time.
SUSTAINABLE BACKYARDS
Toko School are once again participating in the above event. During this event we will have visitors to our school and our students will show people around and discuss with them the many and varied sustainability in action projects that our schools participates in. Our Enviro Stall will also be full of produce.
The Sustainable Backyards Trail is more than just about viewing gardens. It’s about sharing knowledge, ideas, enthusiasm and the opportunity to connect with a community of people who are enthusiastic about living off the land, eating healthy kai, sharing resources and collectively contributing to a more resilient Taranaki, NZ and the planet.
CHICKENS FOR SALE
After a discussion with the students in the Rm6 we have come to the regrettable decision that we will have to sell half of our chickens before the end of the year. This is because it costs a lot to feed them and we won't be able to make money from their eggs over this time period. The chickens are all laying really well now and will be sold for $25 each.
The children have also suggested that, rather than doing a roster for feeding the remaining chickens over the holidays, we see if a few families would be happy to house a few extra chooks (maybe 3-5 chooks) for the school holiday period. We would provide some grain and you would just provide the home and any greens or scraps you have. You would keep the eggs. There will be approximately 15 chickens in total to house over the break. If you think you would be able to help, could you please email me asap on sasha.hancock@toko.school.nz. If no one is able to adopt the chooks for the break we will go back to having a roster.
BOOK WEEK
Thank you so much to everyone who took the time with the fantastic costumes for our book week dress up last week. Everyone looked fantastic and its a great way to get children talking about and sharing the books they are reading. I learned about lots of new characters. Thank you Rebecca Bright.
