We like to post those acceptances on a bulletin board outside the counseling office because we are proud of your accomplishments.
First Years
First years began a new project this week called A League of Our Own. Save the date for January 16th at Clark Stadium when teams will display their custom-built launching devices.
In Math with Mr. Stone, learners will be moving into Polynomials and their operations. In Mrs. Stephens’ World Geography classes are focusing on the regions of the world and major languages and religions. Next week they will start looking at political, economic, and societal differences of different cultures. In Physics and Engineering, with Mr. Hardy & Mr. Hudnall, learners competed in the Popsicle Catapult Challenge and they went through an accelerated Engineering Design Process to build a launching device out of popsicle sticks. In English with Ms. Wright, learners began reading the epic tales of Odysseus in a graphic novel by Gareth Hinds which is based on Homer’s The Odyssey. In Art & Tech with Mr. McCoy, learners discussed art in the prospective assigned countries for A League of Their Own.

Second Years
It has been a very Classical week for the Second Year learners this week, as they dove into Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Plato’s Republic. This is the first time many learners have ever dealt with philosophy, but the learners definitely rose to the occasion.
The Second Years’ hard work and cumulative research is coming together as symposium posters are designed and created in preparation for the Academy’s Second Annual Titan Thinker Symposium. Please join us next Tuesday, November 13th fro 5:30-7:00 to celebrate the results of many weeks of hard work, research, and synthesis. We are very impressed with the work the Second Years have done on their project, and are looking forward to sharing it with you. This semester is flying by, and it’s hard to believe that we will be kicking off the project launch for the ever-popular project, “Beneath the Surface” next week!
Third Years
The 3rd year learners are in the early stages of K'Ching production phase. This entails learners being empowered to create their own schedule to maximize work time in areas such as the chem lab to produce their products, the fab lab to construct their designs, applying their knowledge of film design to produce their commercials, and creating their booth and windows all across the first floor learning spaces.
We are looking forward to seeing you on K'Ching simulation night on the evening of Thursday Nov 29th to see the presentation of all of this hard work.
Fourth Years
This week 4th-year learners continue their work on our new project “It’s Alive”. Learners grappled with the question “What does it mean to be alive?” while also considering how technology makes life more efficient. In English learners examined this week’s focus question regarding the efficiency of technology, they began reading and analyzing a text for literal, interpretive, and evaluative meaning. They also spent time reading the mentor text for the project, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. Learners will have a reading check on Monday over chapters 1-5 of the text. In SRD learners Learners completed the Methodology section of the Capstone Proposal. Learners were also introduced to technologies that impact food production in the agricultural and fishery industries. Learners examined the technology critically and analyzed the benefits and disadvantages of the technology as part of their greater understanding of the themes in It’s Alive Project. In computer science, learners continued working with dynamic JavaScript concepts to continue building interactive web pages. Learners also started to learn about functions and how they help reduce code duplication and promote the concept of reusability. Just a reminder to fourth years, if you bring the most canned food in next week our class will get a prize!
