Message from Mrs. Vena
It feels like yesterday that I was writing to you about how excited we were to greet the students and get the new school year started, and now, whether we are ready or not, we must wrap up another school year and say goodbye to our students for the summer and to our fifth graders as they move on to the next step on their academic journey. I would like to extend a most sincere thank you for trusting us with your children. It is an honor to be your partner in their educational journey, and we have thoroughly enjoyed working and learning with them this year. We wish you a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer break!!!
Respectfully,
Mrs. Vena
NEW PROCEDURE
The District 34 leadership team has been discussing our approach to student placement and the complexities connected to posting class lists in our buildings prior to the start of school. While we understand the interest our parents have in seeing what other students will be in their child’s class, for a variety of social-emotional and security reasons, we will be moving away from this practice.
Starting next school year, all the District 34 schools will be following a process similar to many of our surrounding districts in which parents receive an email with information about their child’s teacher as well as other important details leading into the start of the school year. You can expect this information in August, similar to when class lists were posted
in the past.
We recognize this is a change in practice for our families; however, our commitment to designing balanced classes according to established criteria to create the optimal learning environment for all our students has always been and will continue to be our priority. Despite this change, our tradition of identifying a Meet & Greet /Supply Drop-Off time right before school starts that gives students and families the opportunity to come into Glen Grove, see their classrooms, meet their teachers, and drop off school supplies will continue. Look for these dates and times in the final newsletter of the school year, and we will also publish them on our website and in our summer communication to you. We understand that many families are taking vacations or have other obligations they’d like to fulfill right before the bustle of the school year officially begins, so do not worry if you cannot make it to your child’s Meet & Greet/Supply Drop-Off. Our first-day-of-school plans include many protocols and routines that help orient all of our students to their new classrooms and ease any first-day-of-school jitters any of them might be experiencing.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we move toward this new way of sharing information with parents about their child’s placement for the upcoming school year.

They will be forwarded to your child’s middle school with their health file. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Hastings, Health Coordinator, at (847)657-2394.
Snow Day Make-Up Plan: No Change for Students
In response to inclement weather, District 34 collectively made the decision with other Northfield Township school districts to cancel school on February 9, 2018. At the Board of Education meeting on Monday, Superintendent Dr. Dane Delli recommended that June 5 remain the last day of school for students. This day will be an early dismissal day for students in grades 1-7. Because this will be an early dismissal day, there will be an abbreviated schedule, which is as follows:
7:55-11 (Intermediate Schedule)
8:25-11:30 ( Middle School Schedule)
8:55-12 (Primary Schedule)
