Mrs. D's Weekly Class Newsletter

Week of February 5th

Reading Contest

Our school is having a reading contest to see if each class can read a 100 books before February 12. We are also keeping track of which student reads the most books because the student will help pick a staff member who is getting slimed.

There is a reading log on the homework sheets we send home each Monday. I will also send home a page for a reading log. We want to win so please help us reach the goal of 100 books by reading 1-2 books each night.

Valentine's Day Party

We will have a small Valentine's Day party on February 12th at 1:30. This is a change from earlier, with teachers being asked to have all Valentine's Day parties completed before 2:15 this year so we can go to the assembly. Students will make a small craft and then we will exchange Valentine's Day cards and eat some goodies. Parents are welcome to attend.

February Events

On February 9th: To celebrate the 100th day of School, the school will be having an After School Reading Night. Students will have the opportunity to stay after school and take the late bus home at 4:45. Also, students can bring in a poster or a project of 100 items to show that they counted to 100. If the students bring in their 100 projects/poster, then they will get a prize.

February 10: We will be going to the Middle School/ High School for the District Spelling Bee.

On February 12: We will have a Dime Raffle during lunch. If you would like your child to participate, please send in some dimes in a bag with your child's name on the bag. The children will get to put raffles in for prizes at lunch.

On February 26: "Fairy Tale Day"- Children can dress up as their favorite fairy tale character and there will be an assembly to show them at 2:15 p.m.

Outside Recess

Classes can take their students outside for recess if the weather is above 20 degrees. 2nd grade currently takes their class outside every Wednesday. Our class will try to go outside every Friday afternoon. The school rule is your child needs to have boots, snow pants (or another pair of pants to wear over their clothing), hats/gloves, and a warm coat. While we have some boots, hats/gloves, and coats in our room, we really do not have extra pants. We want every child to have the chance to go outside to play together so please contact me if sending in winter clothing will be difficult.
