MULBERRY CREEK ELEMENTARY
DR. DEBBIE HARNOIS, NCC, LPC, SCHOOL COUNSELOR
WELCOME TO THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR!
I am soooo excited to welcome our parents and students back to Mulberry Creek!
As the school counselor, I have the awesome privilege to work with every single student in the school. By following the American School Counselor Association’s National Model, all students have the opportunity to participate in school-wide instruction, classroom instruction, small group counseling and individual counseling.
School-wide Instruction occurs when the school counselor provides programs and activities school-wide to help students learn and grow their skills and knowledge regarding their academic, career and personal/social development. Examples of school-wide instruction: Attendance Awareness Week, STEAM Career Week and College Day Fridays.
Classroom Instruction occurs when the school counselor delivers instruction in the classroom setting to prepare students in the areas of career, learning, and lifelong readiness. Examples of classroom instruction: character education, career exploration and resolving conflict.
Small Group Counseling occurs when the school counselor works with small groups of students experiencing similar concerns. Examples of small groups: adjusting to a school setting, building friendships and controlling emotions.
Short-term Individual Counseling occurs when the school counselor works one-on-one with a student to provide additional assistance or to build mastery of skills based upon specific needs. Most students meet with the school counselor from four to six sessions. Examples of individual counseling: family changes, such as divorce or separation, experiencing loss, death and grief, or school adjustment issues.
Individual counseling occurs when the school counselor may meet with a student once or twice. Examples of individual counseling: behavior incident in the classroom, student becomes upset or student is feeling anxious/worried.
Referral for Small Group and/or Short-term Individual Counseling occurs when students, teachers, administrator or parents request these services. A Parent Consent form is sent home to parents for their signature for small group counseling and/or short-term weekly individual counseling.
I also meet with parents, collaborate with faculty and administrators and consult with community organizations to benefit and meet the needs of our students.
We are here to support our students and families. If you have any concerns or need assistance, please feel free to contact me. Working together as a team will ensure the most success for our students!
With warmest regards,
Dr. Debbie

MEET OUR SCHOOL COUNSELING INTERN
COLLEGE COLORS FRIDAYS
The college football season is a great opportunity to build awareness in our students about higher education. Beginning Friday, September 3rd, everyone is invited to wear the colors of their favorite university or a college t-shirt. During the college football season, students will have the opportunity to learn fun facts about colleges and the benefits of attending a college or technical school.
