Mayor for the Day
Phillips Elementary partnered with the Kaufman City Council to select a "Mayor for the Day" on April 23rd. Claire Corder, a fourth grader, won our essay contest on how she would make Kaufman better if elected mayor. She was escorted to school by the Kaufman Police Department. Claire was treated to a pizza dinner with her friends and then presided over the City Council meeting later that evening.
Track and Field Days
Fourth grade held their Track and Field Day on April 27th. Students participated in the 50, 100, 200, and 400 yard races at the high school track. Students then participated in team games on our playground after lunch. Third grade will hold their Track and Field Day on May 14th.
STAAR Review Camp
Our students participated in a fun review camp the Monday and Tuesday before testing. Stations were set up in the gym to practice Reading and Math skills. Camping was the theme for the review and students enjoyed the engaging activities before testing.
Thompson Executive Leadership Institute
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Principal Academy I was able to attend this year in Austin. I looked forward to my monthly sessions with the group of principals from around the state. I learned so much from Dr. Thompson that will continue to influence my leadership style in the future. I also made life long connections with other principals. The networking aspect of the institute was such a positive experience for me. I want to thank you all for the opportunity and resources afforded to me in order to attend this valuable professional development.
