From Your Principal
Hello Hairgrove families,
Hairgrove Elementary is a special place to learn and grow. Our educators are dedicated to providing the best possible instruction while helping all students to become well-rounded individuals with a bright future. The school-home partnership is very important in helping our children to be as successful as possible in life.
We know that many students have learning gaps due to the disruption that COVID caused in the last few years and our teachers are doing all they can to ensure students get the best instruction possible. Please remember that there are many things you can do at home to help with your child’s education. Some of these include:
- Practicing math facts at home, in the car, or at the store.
- Reading each day for at least 15 minutes.
- Using ‘Closed Captioning’ on your TVs.
- Ensure that homework is completed each day.
- Setting attainable goals for your children in regard to school.
- Checking your child's Thursday folder every Thursday
- Communicate with teachers regarding your child's academic progress
It is crucial that we all work together to achieve success for all our Hairgrove dolphins.
We hope that you and your family are staying healthy and safe, and please call the school if there is any way that we can assist you in the education of your children. Thank you for your support!

Music Notes
Choir sounds so wonderful and we still have five more rehearsals! Thank you for practicing with your lyric sheet. We practice from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on the following dates:
February 16
March 2, 23
April 6, 20
Parent pickup is at the back of the school by the Atrium.
First graders are working diligently practicing for their program, Creepy Creatures.
What a great science connection! Spiders, snakes and slugs, oh my! They will perform it on Tuesday, March 29. Look for a letter in their Thursday folder sometime in March with more details.
From the School Attendance Office:
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred. All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse, please attach it the note. Please feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use. Thank you.

Library
The Scholastic Book Fair is returning to the Hairgrove Library February 13-16. Our Fall Book Fair broke a sales record. Thank you for supporting literacy and encouraging our dolphins to read! You can send cash with your students for purchases or set up an ewallet where you pay ahead by credit card. No need to print anything off with the eWallet; your student will come to shop at the fair and I can look up your student in the register. You can access eWallet sign up and book fair information at the link or through the QR code. Thank you for your support of the Hairgrove Library.
Homepage link and QR code to share for eWallet:

The CFISD Mobile Library will be at the Chimney Hill Community Center on February 4 from 12:30-2:30.
The community center is located at 13720 Smokey Trail. Books checked out at the mobile library can be returned to the Hairgrove Library. This is a fantastic opportunity for our dolphins to check out extra books!
Thank you for your support of the Hairgrove Library. You can always email me if you have any questions.

Art News
Congratulations to our Hairgrove Dolphin Artists that participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest!
In class, we are mindfully making art and challenging our brains in our creative processes. We are currently creating Neurographic Art, which uses drawing that activates connections between our brain cells and neurons, resulting in an awareness to help turn stress into calm. This activity will help the students become aware of their emotions, feelings and surrounding, which will help them manage their reactions in a positive way.

P.E. News
Hello Dolphin Families,
Happy New Year from the gym! The students are excited that our basketball unit is in full swing, so the secondary students are practicing ball handling, basketball shooting drills, and short games. We are still cupstacking for hand/eye coordination and ambidexterity (using both hands with equal power). The primary students are fully engaged with movement and skill practice stations, and they leave the gym tired but happy! Thank you for all your support!

Car Rider Corner
If you pick your child up via the car rider line in the afternoon, please be sure to have your 2021-2022 car rider number hanging from the rear view mirror before you enter the parking lot and leave it hanging until your child is safely inside of the vehicle. The staff members who are sending the numbers inside need to be able to see the number easily to expedite the process of having your child brought outside to you as quickly as possible and the staff members putting your child inside of the vehicle need to match the number hanging from the rear view mirror with the number on the child’s daily transportation card. If your car rider number is damaged and you need a new one, please stop by the front desk at your earliest convenience to pick up a new one.
We are asking our car rider parents to please be aware of both our students and staff during car rider dismissal. To help with the traffic flow, we use a staff member to direct traffic between the two lanes. Please be aware of the staff member and observe and follow the traffic directions that are being given. Please be sure that your foot remains on the break as your child enters the car and aware of other students and staff in the area. There have been several instances where the driver has been looking back at the child instead of in the direction that they are driving. This puts both staff and students in danger. We do not want any students or staff members to be hurt.
As a final reminder, students are brought in to the front office at 4:00 pm. You will have to come into the front office to sign your student out. Please make sure to bring with you your Drivers Licence or Car Rider Tag. If you do not have the Car Rider Tag and you are not the legal guardian, we will need to contact the students legal guardian to get approval. It is illegal to be on a cell phone in a school zone. The parking lot of a school is still part of a school zone.
Thank you for your compliance in helping the afternoon car rider line to run safely and efficiently.

Notes from Nurse Pollard:
February is National Dental Health Month
Here are a few reminders:
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
- Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
- Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.
- Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning.
- Don’t forget to change your toothbrush regularly, and after an illness. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends changing your toothbrush about every 3 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
- Remember eating a lot of sugary snacks may cause CAVITIES.
Friendly Reminder:
- Vision and Hearing screenings were done at Hairgrove during the month of November. Referrals were sent with students who failed any of their screenings. If your child received a referral, please get those returned to me as soon as possible. Vision can affect learning which is why it is very important that students who need glasses wear them while in school.
- Students need to stay home for a fever of 100 and above. May return to school with doctor clearance or fever free for 24 hours without a fever reducer.
- Pre-K and Kindergarten parents please continue sending a pair of clean clothes in student’s backpack in case of any accidents.
