PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hidden River Families--
...And, we’re off!... (Again!). Words cannot quite capture the experience of seeing our first student walk through our front doors on Wednesday morning. Being here in person with your students was more energizing to our staff (and hopefully students as well) than we could have imagined. Staff and students alike were smiling, moving around, helping each other follow our new COVID norms while at school, and learning by talking and interacting together!
Because of this, I was thinking this week that this note needs to be a good old fashioned “Thank You” note.
Thank you to our families and parents. We know you have carried a huge load this year, not only related to school and your child’s learning. Thank you for your efforts, for your diligence, and for your patience.
Thank you to our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our PTO has continued to honor students by providing small gifts to every single one of our HRMS students this year (some HRMS water bottle stickers), and by providing full sets of books to some of our classrooms to support student learning. They have honored our staff through staff appreciation efforts. And they have provided ongoing opportunities for parents and families to network and connect through our monthly Parent Connections nights, Principal Chats, and other ways of spreading the word about how to support each other through the challenges of Distance Learning. Our PTO has continued to be an incredible partner this past year. (Side note-- Please join our PTO meeting this coming Wednesday night at 7PM. Here is the Zoom!).
Thank you to our students! We know you have given your best, and as we transitioned back this week seeing your smiles and your willingness to adapt to new ways of doing things yet again, has been amazing.
Thank you to our staff. Your heart, passion, and commitment to our students is unquestioned, and has required changing and adapting in so many more ways than we ever imagined.
Thank you to the Hidden River Middle School community for being part of the work every step of the way to get us to this point. We are still working, still learning, and still improving, but doing all of that together makes each of us better and more whole as people.
Have a great weekend--
Jonathan Judy

HYBRID LEARNING "NEED-TO-KNOWS:"
Asynchronous Attendance:
The days students are learning from home are called “asynchronous” days. It is important to know the following about how we take attendance on those days:
Each teacher has clearly labeled “Attendance Tasks” and the learning tasks and resources in the Modules section of their Canvas Page.
All students should go to ALL of their class Canvas pages on every asynchronous learning day.
Teachers are communicating to students what time they will be putting in attendance each day. In general, it is the end of the student school day (2:20pm), with a few rare exceptions.
If you receive a “robo call” alerting you to an absence on an asynchronous learning day, you should simply think of it as a reminder for your student. In this case: (A) Ask your student which class they were marked absent for (they can see this in the Calendar section of Family Access / Skyward). (B) Have them re-check the Canvas Page for that class. (C) Make sure they have completed their learning and attendance tasks for that day.
Please consider using this Asynchronous Student Checklist to help your student organize their time and work expectations during at-home learning time.
Student Schedule Moving Forward
We are in the process of putting together a visual for a student schedule for the following:
Linked Here is the Student Schedule for the weeks of April 19 and April 26 (next two weeks)
Student In-Person Groups
A Group students will be here onsite on Mondays and Wednesdays.
B Group students will be here onsite on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Your student’s group is listed on their Skyward Schedule.
Technology
All students should bring their district-issued Chromebook to and from school each day. If your student has not been issued a Chromebook from MSD, please have them see Ms. O’Neill in the library.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Attention Parents:
Please be aware that our illness policy has changed as we are following the Snohomish County Health Department guidelines for K-12 schools. Please click here for more information. If you are calling your student out sick from school, please note that you will receive a call from the health room for more information.
Please be aware: Medical condition or Covid symptoms?
Some of our students are exhibiting symptoms of Covid that may actually be related to seasonal or medical conditions, such as allergies or asthma. In order for your child to be able to come to school they need to be symptom free. However, in some cases, they could return to school if you obtain a note from your child's doctor with a diagnosis and symptoms that are related to their medical condition. Otherwise, your child will need to stay out for the required Snohomish County Health Dept. quarantine time. Students may return earlier than the 10 days if they get a negative Covid test while the student is symptomatic. If you have questions, please call our school nurse or health room assistant for more information.

FREE MEALS CONTINUE FOR ALL STUDENTS!
Did you know we are still offering FREE meals for all students, even when they are attending in-person?!
Meals for students in grades 6-12 are a combination of in school service and take-home meals. On the days they attend in-person, students are offered a free sack lunch to be eaten at school. They also have an opportunity to receive free take-home meals at the end of their day, which includes breakfasts and lunches for the days that they will be remote learning.
We know that children learn better when they have had a meal. Please encourage your student to take advantage of the free meals both in school and take-home! We will continue offering free meals through the rest of this school year!
On April 14th, the daily curbside service times at Park Place and Hidden River Middle Schools will be changed to 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM until April 21st.
Wednesday, April 21st will be the last day of the daily curbside service and curbside service will transition to the 5-Day Meal Kit Program for any child not attending school. Learn more and register here: https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/covid-19/free-meal-program
