March edition
Hi! Our March edition will cover accelerated learning in Science, a sneaky little browser, and March Tweets!
Accelerated Learning: A Focus on Science
Check your Schoology curriculum folders for Science writing support. Remember to give students a chance to explain their thinking with evidence.
Acceleration resources in curriculum folders can be used for Flipped Learning!
Overcoming Barriers with Science Implementation
- Modeling is the key - don't assume students know how to handle materials.
- Science class jobs
- Location of materials/preparing ahead of time/bins for organization
- Materials are learning tools not toys - set that expectation
- Respect the room
A Sneaky Browser
Recently students have been using a browser other than Chrome to get on websites that are usually blocked. It seems that the browser extension is downloaded through the Kurzweil app. I watched a student go through the steps and it is very involved. The browser image will appear as a gray cube next to the Chrome browser icon on the student's task bar (see picture below). When students use this browser it allows them to play games, be on YouTube, and other websites that are normally blocked. It also keeps us from seeing their tab on GoGuardian since it isn't a Chrome tab. I have spoken to a few classes regarding this browser and the importance of not using it. If you would like me to come to your class, please let me know.
