7th/8th Grade Track and Field Team Informational Meeting
Our track and field coach will be hosting a parent/student informational meeting on Tuesday, February 11 in the Gentry cafe'. If your 7th/8th grade student is interested in being a part of the GMS track and field team, please plan on attending this meeting. Our coach will be presenting information on: required MSHSAA paperwork, student/athlete expectations, practice and meet/invitational schedules, etc.
NOTE: Your student must have current MSHSAA paperwork on file in the main office in order for them to participate on our 7th/8th grade Track and Field Team. Please feel free to contact the main office (214-3240) if you are unsure if you have already submitted this paperwork or if you simply want to make sure that your student's paperwork is current.
Spelling Bee
Our GMS 2020 Spelling Bee took place on January 27th in the media center. Our first place winner was Ruchira Patil and our runner up was Ben Maschmann. Ruchira will now go onto to compete in the The Columbia Missourian Regional Spelling Bee at the University of Missouri on March 10, 2020. Go Jaguars!
Valentine's Day Gifts/Treats
Though school will not be in session on Friday, February 14th, we wanted to remind everyone that we are not able to accept Valentine's Day gifts/deliveries from parents or couriers the days prior to or following Valentine's Day. As always, we ask that families save these special Valentine's Day gifts for home and refrain from sending them to school. Thank you for understanding and helping us with this.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
Krispy Kreme donuts are coming to Gentry Middle School in February! PTSA is raising funds for our students, teachers, building and *BEYOND, and we need everyone’s help! Students will be selling delicious glazed Krispy Kreme donuts by the dozen; the cost is $10 a box. Sales packets will be given to students in their RTI classes on Monday, February 10. All orders and money collected will be due to the office by Wednesday, February 26th. Fresh donuts will arrive at Gentry on Saturday, March 7, and students will need to pick them up for delivery between 8:00 am-10:00 am in the cafetorium. Please note that our PTSA is happy to deliver your donut order on Saturday morning to our nearby Fire Department and the Columbia Police Department (as indicated by your order sheet) if you truly want to participate in our fundraiser and help our cause, but don’t necessarily want to indulge in the extra calories. Any orders that are not picked up by 10:00 am will automatically be donated or re-sold as needed.
Also, as we pass the torch to some of our amazing students and families who will be attending the new middle school, please note that a portion of the total proceeds raised from this fundraiser will be donated to the start-up of the John Warner M.S. PTSA. The top 3 sellers will receive a $50 Amazon gift card.
We would like to THANK all of you in advance for your continued support of our students and our entire school community. As always, thank you for your incredible support!
PTSA Meeting
We are cancelling our February general PTSA meeting. Our next PTSA general meeting will take place on March 18th in the Gentry Media Center. We will be inviting new families to Gentry as well as existing families to learn a little more about clubs, sports, organizations available to our students. We’d love for EVERYONE to join us. Refreshments will be served.
Parent Teacher Conferences
We will be hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences Tuesday, February 25th and Wednesday, February 26th from 3:30-6:30 pm each day. We thought that you may want to pencil it on your calendars now. As these dates draw near, please be looking for an email from your student's teachers with further details.
Rising 7th and 8th grade Enrollment Coming Soon
Our counselors will be visiting our current 6th and 7th grade Social Studies class rooms on February 20th and 21st to present enrollment information for next year (2020-2021). Forms will be handed out and counselors will present information on course options. Due to the boundary shifts occurring next school year, these presentations and course selection forms will be applicable to any school that students attend next school year.
More detailed updates will be sent in the coming weeks as we get closer to the enrollment dates. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our counseling department.

Incoming 8th Grade Students Proof of Immunizations- Don't Delay!
The primary dose of the Tdap and Meningitis vaccines are generally administered to adolescents in the 6th grade (or between the ages of 11-12). It is a state REQUIREMENT that we obtain proof that your student has received the primary dose of both of these vaccinations PRIOR to their first day of 8th grade. If your student will be attending summer school as an incoming 8th grade student they will need to provide this proof PRIOR to starting summer school. Eighth grade students who have NOT provided us with this documentation will not be permitted to attend classes until this documentation is provided.
There is no need to wait! This documentation can be submitted to our nurse any time after your student receives these two vaccines. Providing this proof promptly will ensure that your student will be ready to start the 8th grade without delay.
Summer School Enrollment
The 2020 Summer SUNsation K-8 is coming again to Columbia Schools this summer with new, fun course offerings. PBIS Goal for February 10-14
This week’s RRKS ribbon goal will focus on safety. While in the restrooms, students will wash their hands, as well as watch where they are going and keep their hands, feet and other objects to themselves. We will be looking to reward those students who are aware of their surroundings and following safe procedures.
