Redesign Updates
Staff has been working hard looking at data, researching, and planning strategies to pilot for Redesign. We have identified 3 areas we will be looking at. They are Family/Community Engagement, Personalized Learning, and Social/Emotional Learning. Over the next 6 weeks or so, different classrooms will be working on piloting strategies, tracking their effectiveness, and making adjustments based on the findings. The following is a list of things each group will be trying first.
Family/Community Engagement
- SeeSaw is an app that helps families be more connected to the learning that is happening in the classroom.
- If you would like more information about how it can be used in school please click on the link https://web.seesaw.me/seesaw-for-schools
- 3rd-5th grade students will be trying some interest-based activities during tier time at the end of the day. They will have 8 different classes to choose from. Classes will start the first week of February and last 2 weeks.
- PreK will be trying some Genius Hour activities on Wednesday related to their museum theme. Genius hour allows students to explore things they are passionate about and encourages creativity.
- Zones of Regulation is a social/emotional curriculum that teaches students to recognize their emotions and implement strategies to help them regulate themselves. Several classrooms throughout the building will be implementing this curriculum in the classroom.

January Student of the Month
Asher Filbeck was chosen as the student of the month for January. Asher is the son of Jason and Miranda Filbeck and represented Ewalt at the Friends of Augusta Luncheon at the high school last Tuesday. Asher's teachers said, "Asher stands out among his peers as a kind-hearted compassionate individual. He always goes the extra mile to make sure everyone feels significant. Asher is a role model student in his academics as well. He strives to always give his best and he pushes himself to excel above expectations. It is a pleasure to know Asher as he truly makes this world a better place." Congratulations Asher!
New Dismissal Routine - Curb-side Service
Starting February 18th we will have a new procedure for dismissal. Parent survey results indicated a concern for how dismissal happens currently and so we will be trying a new process that will make the process smoother and safer for everyone. A detailed note went home in Wednesday packets on January 22nd, but the highlights are:
- The parking lot will be closed for cars parking in spaces at 2:30 each day. We want to be able to load as many cars as possible at once so we will be using all of the space along the building to do that.
- ALL students will come to the gym at the end of the day and get with their siblings, if they have them. Students will line up by family number.
- Students who walk home or ride their bikes, will be dismissed first and helped across the crosswalk.
- Students will not be dismissed to load cars at the district office or St. James. Only students who walk all the way home, or ride their bikes will cross the crosswalks.
- Those picking up students will place a sign on the passenger side of their dash with the family's assigned number and last name. If you are picking up additional students you will need to have their family number and name displayed on your dash as well. Signs with numbers and names will be given out at conferences.
- ALL cars will line up, single file, and students will be dismissed from the gym in the order cars are lined up in the parking lot. Cars will be loaded 8 to 10 at a time. When those cars are loaded, they will proceed out of the parking lot in that order, and the next set of cars will be loaded.
- Staff will help students load into the passenger side of the vehicle. All parents will remain in their cars while waiting for their students to load.
- You will need to enter Greyhound Dr. from Ohio St. and work your way towards Ewalt so you will be able to turn right into the parking lot.
